Job Purpose Removal, fabrication, fitment and welding of railcar parts, components and structures.
Key Job Elements
Removal, fabrication, fitment and welding of railcar parts, components and structures
Repair or replace worn mechanical components
Fabricate, assemble, or disassemble manufactured products
Read blueprints, technical drawings, and use tape measure
Read and understand work orders and record repairs correctly
Understand service and repair manuals and apply constraints to repairs and modifications
Use oxy/fuel torch, arc welding equipment, and power tools
Apply decals, stenciling, and touch‑up painting on railcars
Perform all duties in compliance with PRS safety policies
Perform all duties within time standards allowed
Education / Training
High School Education or GED preferred
Qualifications And Experience
Mechanical aptitude
Read precision instruments and gauges
Work from blueprints and technical drawings
Capable use of hand and power tools, including pneumatic tools, cutting torches, and welding machines
Work around and operate overhead cranes and mobile equipment
Work from heights over 6'
Work on varied surfaces (concrete floors, gravel, railcar floors)
Constant standing, walking, frequent bending, crouching, stooping, kneeling, squatting, overhead reaching, climbing ladders
Must be able to push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Must have a valid driver's license
Essential And Physical Activities Functions
Strength – be able to push, pull or carry up to 50 lbs.
Motion – constant standing and walking; frequent bending, crouching, stooping, kneeling, squatting, overhead reaching, climbing ladders; frequent work below waist level and above shoulder level.
Vision/Hearing – high noise levels (above 85 decibels).
Work Environment – work from heights over 6'; work on varied surfaces; work around and operate overhead cranes and mobile equipment.
Emotional Demands – must be able to work alone and in team setting.
Safety – this is a safety sensitive position; requires work on and around rails and heavy equipment.
Position requires strict adherence to safety policies (e.g., blue flag) and use of all PPE requirements that include hand, head, eye, ear, and foot protection.
