Job Title: Manual / Precision Machinist
Location: Newport News, VA
Job Type: Full-Time | First Shift
Pay Rate: $20–$30+/hour (Depending on Experience)

Job Description The Precision Machinist is responsible for producing machined parts by setting up and operating manual mills, lathes, and various shop equipment, including drill presses, wet saws, belt sanders, and hydraulic presses. Materials commonly used include steel, aluminum, and plastics. Most work involves production quantities, so the ability to maintain a steady, efficient pace with a strong sense of urgency is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Interpret work orders, blueprints, orthographic drawings, and GD&T to plan machining work.
Set up and operate manual mills and lathes with varying tool attachments (chucks, cutters, mandrels, arbors, dividing heads, etc.).
Operate drill presses, wet saws, belt sanders, and hydraulic presses.
Perform precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, depth gauges, and rulers.
Verify machining accuracy through first‑run part checks and sample workpiece measurements.
Maintain compliance with ISO 9001 quality standards.
Perform equipment maintenance and troubleshoot malfunctions.
Support stock and tool inventory management.
Required Skills & Experience
Minimum 3 years’ experience as a machinist
Proficiency with manual mills and lathes
Ability to interpret blueprints and technical drawings
Strong math skills (geometry, trigonometry)
Experience in quality control, including First Article and PPAP inspections
Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
Knowledge of tool management and maintenance
Ability to stand, bend, reach, and lift up to 50 lbs
High attention to detail and accuracy
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in sheet metal manufacturing
CNC machining experience, including programming and G-code editing
Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality standards
Process improvement experience
Knowledge of supply management and inventory control
Equipment Exposure
Vertical milling machines
Engine lathes (20” x 60”)
Second operation lathes
