Assistant Designer, Women's Accessories – Freelance
New York, NY – 6+ month contract (3 days onsite, 2 remote days per week). Hourly pay range: $28.00‑$31.00 based on experience and skill set.
Responsibilities
Work closely with category leader to design category‑specific products based on the given design direction.
Categories include Jewelry, Hair, Sunglasses, Gifting, and Fragrance.
Develop seasonal products focusing on style, aesthetic, functionality, fabric, details, color, etc.
Learn and understand the ins‑and‑outs of details related to a specific classification.
Perform daily follow‑up using emails, PLM, and Google Docs spreadsheets.
Interact with buyers and vendors to develop a working partnership.
Do trend research and help prepare presentations for milestone meetings.
Maintain daily running of classification while designer travels, including fit sessions.
Perform preliminary design research domestically.
Comment on samples, final product, etc. with supervisor approval.
Manage samples in an organized and efficient way for easy access.
Work with CAD team on prints and patterns if applicable.
Be able to work in a hybrid environment; some work may be remote but essential functions must be performed in‑person.
In‑person collaboration is required, per business needs (portion or full week).
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in fashion or art (or equivalent experience).
At least 1‑2 years of related apparel experience; accessories experience must be present.
PLM experience required.
Ability to act as a liaison between many departments; excellent communication and analytic skills.
Must be detail‑oriented, very organized, computer literate, able to handle multiple tasks at once, and thrive in a fast‑paced, ever‑changing environment.
Knowledgeable in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), Excel, and PLM.
Comfortable working in a hybrid environment, with office days as needed.
