Primary Function The Pesticide/Herbicide Applicator is responsible for safely and effectively applying chemical and biological products used to control weeds, pests, insects, and diseases across landscaped areas, athletic fields, parks, and facility grounds. This position ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations governing pesticide use while maintaining high standards for turf and landscape health.

Essential Duties

Apply pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and fertilizers to turf, ornamental plants, hardscapes, and natural areas following established application plans.

Safely mix, load, and calibrate sprayers, spreaders, and other application equipment to ensure accurate product usage.

Identify pest and weed issues; recommend appropriate treatment strategies based on environmental conditions, product labels, and integrated pest management (IPM) principles.

Maintain detailed application records including product type, quantities used, treatment areas, and weather conditions.

Inspect and monitor treated areas to assess effectiveness and determine follow-up treatments when necessary.

Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs on spray rigs, backpack sprayers, powered equipment, and vehicles.

Ensure chemical storage, transport, and disposal procedures comply with safety and regulatory standards.

Communicate with supervisors and grounds staff regarding treatment schedules and potential environmental or safety concerns.

Assist with general grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing, trimming, irrigation checks, and landscaping as assigned.

Participate in ongoing safety training and stay current with pesticide regulations and label requirements.
