under the supervision of the Manager of Plant Services and Engineering and Lead HVAC Mechanic.
Responsibilities
Perform preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, repairs, installations, replacements, tests, and operation of engines, boilers, pumps, air compressors, air conditioning equipment, heating and ventilating systems, steam lines, valves, controls, building systems, production equipment, and maintenance support equipment.
Plan, organize, and coordinate functions of HVAC, electrical, and utility systems to maintain the hospital environment according to regulations.
Coordinate all activities with other departments.
Assure correct maintenance, servicing, repair, and installation of hospital machinery and mechanical equipment per manuals and diagrams.
Conduct daily rounds of machinery rooms, nursing floors, dietary, and other assigned areas.
Show knowledge of facility equipment and systems including life safety, utility, building, production, maintenance support, and grounds equipment.
Perform necessary chemical tests on water systems for boilers, cooling towers, and water softeners.
Inspect oil, water, fuel levels and pressures on all operating and standby machinery.
Maintain shop area cleanliness and equipment appearance.
Diagnose and troubleshoot HVAC equipment and controls throughout the facility.
Use tools properly and maintain them.
Inspect and evaluate physical condition of the hospital and recommend improvements for HVAC, electrical, and utility systems.
Maintain hospital policies, procedures, and quality, safety, environment, and infection control standards.
Participate in staff meetings, interdepartmental meetings, and committees.
Engage in professional growth and education.
Other Duties
Perform other duties as assigned.
Report potential wrongdoing and maintain organizational integrity.
Collect and evaluate hazard and safety information for safety management.
Adhere to safety policies and wear PPE.
Participate in performance improvement activities.
Education High School Diploma or equivalent.
Licensure / Certification
Universal refrigeration license preferred on hire or to be obtained within the first year.
Experience
Minimum 10+ years of job‑related experience.
At least 5 years of maintenance experience, with hospital maintenance preferred; 5 years HVAC experience preferred.
Preferred: experience in a hospital setting.
Other Experience Requirements Knowledge of all plant equipment technology and general maintenance practices.
Knowledge / Skills
Analyze situations and make minor decisions.
Familiar with equipment, tools, techniques of maintenance work.
Work independently with minimal supervision.
Read sketches, blueprints, manuals.
Perform acetylene and electrical welding.
Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a vehicle.
Record data accurately.
Assist with HVAC, electrical, and utility systems maintenance.
Knowledge of high/low voltage electrical systems, switchgear, HVAC, utilities.
