The Mortgage Lending Officer role is a developing professional role at Citi, a leading global financial services company. The position is located in Sacramento, California, and is part of Citi Bank Retail Mortgage, where it provides home‑lending services via Citibank branches and centralized service centers. The role represents the Retail Mortgage business by originating high‑quality residential real‑estate loans for clients and engaging with retail branch partners, operations, community business development officers, and key referral sources to drive mortgage sales and client relationships.

Responsibilities

Consult with customers about their financial situation, personal objectives, and lending needs to help them achieve home‑ownership goals.

Collect and analyze customers’ financial information—income, assets, debts, cash flow, credit history—to assess potential loan eligibility.

Makes initial assessments regarding customer and property qualification for specific lending solutions.

Recommends appropriate lending solutions that best meet customers’ financial and personal objectives.

Advises customers on the risks, benefits, and consequences of alternative lending options.

Promotes Citi’s brand and financial services to real‑estate agencies, builders, and other referral sources.

Conducts customer visits outside Citi’s offices, tailoring opportunities to client, geography, and market conditions.

Collaborates with internal partners to support and grow customer relationships.

References customers to the appropriate Citi professionals when they need services beyond lending.

Partners with Operations teams to ensure seamless transfer of loan applications and provides necessary documentation to Processors and Underwriters.

Works with Processors/Closers and customers to ensure timely loan closing.

Grows referral relationships with Realtors, CPAs, Builders, and other key partners to drive mortgage business into the bank.

Introduces clients to suitable segment partners (Bank, Wealth Management, Small Business, Cards, etc.) when appropriate.

Stays abreast of market trends, regulations, and internal/external networks to better serve clients and industry professionals.

Assesses risk and makes decisions that protect Citi’s reputation and safeguard clients’ assets, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, and internal policies.

Qualifications

2–5 years of relevant experience, with 3+ years of mortgage sales experience required.

Residential Mortgage experience and an established book of business.

Proven product sales capability and understanding of FHA/VA & conventional loan products.

Ability to comprehend and explain financial calculations, pricing alternatives, and required documentation.

Knowledge of consumer lending laws and regulations, including fair lending, privacy, and RESPA.

Demonstrated customer service skills and strong relationship development/management ability.

Expertise in general lending products and the overall mortgage industry.

Required to register as a mortgage loan originator with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS) and obtain a unique identifier before engaging in mortgage loan originator activities.

Education

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

Primary Location: Sacramento, California, United States.

Salary Range: $60,000.00 – $175,000.00.
