Overview

The City offers a Sign-On Bonus for Bus Mechanics: $500 with first paycheck and 2% of gross earnings during the first year of employment at the first anniversary. Candidates can complete up to 20 ASE Tests to earn up to an additional $5.00 per hour. Late night and weekend work earns an additional $1.00 per hour. Snap On and Milwaukee tools are provided to all mechanics. Uniforms and laundry service are provided. Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, rotating shifts of 1:30pm to 10:30pm and 4:30pm to 1:30am; occasional Saturdays. This position is eligible for overtime. In addition, a shift differential of $1.00/hour will be paid for working the following hours: Monday – Friday: 6:30 PM until 4:00 AM Saturday – all day (24 hours) Job Summary

Under general direction and in compliance with standard operating procedures and policies, performs skilled work involving the maintenance and repair of all vehicle/bus systems, including gasoline and diesel engines, battery electric vehicle drivetrains, transmissions, 12- and 24-volt electrical systems, engine and transmission computer systems, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, and brake systems. Following Agency Maintenance Plan, performs A, B, C, and D preventative maintenance routines on vehicles and equipment. Installs communications and telematic equipment into vehicles, including radios, camera systems, GPS equipment and ITS. Modifies Greenlink equipment for specific requirements. Follows work tasking on work orders and documents all work as required. Additionally, may serve as a subject matter expert on Greenlink’s Safety Committee as required. Essential Functions

Perform Complex Repairs and Complete Diagnostic Troubleshooting:

Perform complex repairs on gasoline, diesel, and electric vehicles and shop/facility equipment, including engines, electric drive motors, high-voltage electrical systems, electronic transmissions, suspension, steering, tires, braking systems, multiplexing electrical systems, lighting, HVAC, ITS, and related components. Follow OEM diagnostic processes and use diagnostic software and tools. Ensure repairs meet OEM specifications and safety standards. Maintain service records in fleet maintenance software. Conduct Preventive Maintenance:

Complete A, B, C, and D preventive maintenance and safety checks on various vehicles and equipment. Ensure defects are repaired prior to returning to service and document checks electronically. Install and Repair Specialized Equipment:

Install and troubleshoot equipment such as cellular data systems, emergency lighting, radios, fare collection systems, ITS, GPS, body add-ons, and decals. Modify vehicle systems as needed and repair or replace components. Perform other duties as assigned. Job Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent. Over four (4) years of hands-on vehicle repair experience, including at least one (1) year working on transit buses or diesel engines. Preferred Qualifications

Experience working on electric vehicles. ASE certified in Heavy Duty Trucks, Transit, and Automobiles. Driver's License Requirements

Valid South Carolina Class D Driver's License at hire. Valid South Carolina Class B Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) with passenger endorsement within three weeks of hire, or equivalent CLP from state of residence. Valid South Carolina Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement within three months of hire, or equivalent CDL from state of residence. Please be advised: Applicants who do not intend to relocate to South Carolina must reside in a neighboring state (Georgia or North Carolina) and meet the same CDL requirements as residents of South Carolina. Employees residing in a neighboring state must provide an annual Motor Vehicle Record from their state’s DMV at their own cost. Performance Requirements

Knowledge of:

Electrical systems, air systems, chassis and suspension, HVAC, diesel engines and transmissions; failure diagnosis and preventive maintenance for buses and heavy vehicles; testing and repair of radio and other electronic communications equipment; Genfare fare collection system repair; ITS repair and maintenance; OSHA and safe working practices; Electric Vehicle High Voltage Power Systems and ARC Flash training. Ability to:

Use test equipment, operate vehicles in garage/shop areas, apply independent judgment, organize work to minimize downtime, handle detailed or precise tasks, read technical manuals, write reports, and work with diverse teams. Readiness to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, holidays, split shifts, and overtime. Proficiency with Cummins Insight, Allison DOC, Proterra Diagnostics, and Luminator software is preferred. Working Conditions

Primary Work Location:

Fleet maintenance shop. Protective Equipment Required:

Steel-toe shoes, safety glasses, ear plugs, gloves. Environmental/Health and Safety Factors:

Occasional exposure to environmental hazards, outdoor work, extreme temperatures, wetness, respiratory hazards, noise, vibration, and physical hazards; potential exposure to mechanical, chemical, electrical hazards; safety protocols followed. Physical Demands:

Standing, dexterity, walking, lifting, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, climbing, vision, hearing, and speaking. Heavy lifting may be required. Mental Demands:
