Crossroads Pet Resort is a recognized and established Dog Training and Daycare/Boarding facility. We are looking for an experienced dog trainer to join our on‑site training team.

Mission/Purpose:

Promote and ensure efficient training of Board & Train, Puppy, and Daycare & Train dogs using positive reinforcement. Responsible for assessing canine clients' behavior, creating customized training programs, and implementing behavior modification.

Key Accountabilities:

Strong knowledge of learning theory and operant conditioning, positive reinforcement techniques, recognition of dog body language, passing handling tests, prompt and professional conduct.

Training Responsibilities Trainer will define and execute individualized training plans, document progress, communicate with owners, provide one‑on‑one training, and answer phone calls from prospective clients.

Core Responsibilities

Work daily with Board & Train, Puppy, and Daycare & Train dogs using positive reinforcement techniques.

Maintain organized schedule of client appointments and daily sessions.

Log training sessions and complete paperwork: daily training reports/logs and client progress reports.

Design and implement training plans following documented procedures and guidance from the Training Manager.

Conduct daily one‑on‑one training sessions following defined training plans (obedience, behaviors, leash work, socialization, etc.).

Communicate progress and provide coaching to clients on in‑home reinforcement via in‑person, phone, video, and email.

Conduct refresher or brush‑up training sessions for Daycare or short‑term boarding clients.

Meet weekly with Training Manager to review cases and training plans.

Provide pictures and videos of clients and their dogs for owners and company social media.

Ensure animal safety by cleaning up after dogs, monitoring behavior, feeding, and water; report behavioral or health concerns.

Promote positive interactions, moderate dog introductions, and break up fights.

Assist new clients acclimate to group play environment.

Work autonomously and in a group setting with patience and thoroughness.

Assist with and eventually teach group classes.

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of breed types, ages, sizes, and temperaments.

Prior dog training and behavior modification experience (minimum 1 year; 2+ preferred).

Thorough knowledge of canine behavior, including complex issues such as fears and aggression.

CPDT‑KA certification strongly preferred; ability to obtain within 6 months accepted.

Strong communication skills: timely updates, clear written and verbal communication.

Results‑oriented mindset with decisive action and ownership of outcomes.

Motivated “can‑do” attitude, readiness to set high standards, and teamwork.

Education and Experience High school diploma or GED required. Minimum 1 year of dog‑trainer experience in a board & train setting (2+ years preferred). CPDT‑KA certification or ability to obtain within 6 months strongly preferred.

Teamwork and Safety Trainers primarily work autonomously but may assist with kennel or play‑group operations. All staff follow safety protocols and industry best practices. Ensure animal welfare, health, and safety.

Work Environment Majority of duties outdoors. Requires bending, kneeling, stooping, lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for long periods. Environment may be cold, hot, windy, wet, or noisy; safety protocols must be followed.

Interfacing Reports directly to Facility Owner/Training Manager. Interfaces with clients and staff, including front office, kennel, grooming, and management.

Additional Requirements

Ability to lift 50 lbs, stand for long periods, navigate obstacles, work outdoors.

Work around disinfectants, dog hair, and allergens.

Computer literate.

Valid CA driver license.

Details Shift:

Full‑time with some Saturdays required; hours may vary.

Salary:

$16.00–$22.00 per hour, based on experience and certification status.
