Description Instructional Designer, Contract—hybrid location Livermore, CA. Responsible for designing and developing instructor‑led, web‑based, and on‑the‑job training for apprenticeships in the utilities industry.

Responsibilities

Primary designer and developer for instructor‑led, web‑based, and on‑the‑job training.

Leverage instructional design methodologies to assess stakeholder needs, analyze complex content, and evaluate delivered training.

Develop learning materials including hands‑on practice activities, student guides, facilitator guides, scenarios, videos, assessments, simulations, and other media.

Perform detailed task analysis for each job function, business process, or system.

Partner with cross‑functional teams to conceptualize training design and content.

Define learning objectives and course structure aligned to stakeholder needs.

Work under the direction of the Senior Instructional Designer to apply company standards, guidelines, and templates.

Write clear and effective instructional text, audio, or video scripts.

Lead milestone meetings with subject matter experts.

Engage with subject matter experts for ongoing content review and validation.

Receive and incorporate feedback.

Self‑manage assigned tasks and deadlines.

Proactively communicate issues and risks.

Required Skills

3+ years’ experience developing instructor‑led training and on‑the‑job tasks for technical skills.

3+ years of experience with Storyline, QuestionMark, and Author‑It.

Knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional design methodologies.

Proven experience performing task analysis.

Strong knowledge of PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Teams.

Demonstrated ability to deliver against multiple competing deadlines.

Experience developing technical training for adult learners.

P Academy experience is a plus.

Work Samples / Portfolio A portfolio or work samples must be provided for consideration.

Desired Skills

Technical writing experience.

Utility industry experience.

Location & Hours

Must be located in the Bay Area near Livermore, CA.

Work Monday‑Friday, no more than 40 hours per week.

Hybrid: remote work with monthly/quarterly travel to P locations; overnight stays may be necessary.

Travel expenses reimbursed.
