Fire Sprinkler Designer
Salary Range:
$75,000 – $95,000 per year
Location: Orlando, FL (potential hybrid schedule after initial period)
Position Overview The Fire Sprinkler Designer is responsible for the accurate, code‑compliant design of automatic fire sprinkler systems across multiple projects. This role supports project managers, field personnel, inspectors, and other stakeholders by producing clear, coordinated drawings and hydraulic calculations that allow for efficient fabrication, permitting, and installation.
Key Responsibilities
Design and layout automatic fire sprinkler systems, including underground and overhead piping, pumps, standpipes, tanks, and related components.
Produce clean, accurate AutoCAD drawings (AutoCAD 2018 or later) to support successful field installation.
Perform hydraulic calculations using Hydratec software to create efficient, cost‑effective system designs in compliance with applicable codes.
Review project documents and site conditions to identify routing challenges and constructability considerations.
Conduct field surveys as needed to verify structural elements, pipe routing, and sprinkler spacing.
Document Control & Design Technology
Prepare permit drawings, hydraulic calculations, and material submittals for submission to building and fire authorities.
Submit drawings and documentation to contractors, owners, insurers, and other stakeholders as required by contract documents.
Track submittals and approvals to ensure permits are secured prior to scheduled installation start dates.
Maintain organized, accurate project documentation within the company’s paperless system during design and closeout.
Coordinate with internal QA design review teams to support timely reviews without impacting project schedules.
Project & Field Coordination
Coordinate with project managers to align designs with project schedules and installation strategies.
Participate in coordination meetings with other trades to resolve pipe routing and layout conflicts.
Communicate directly with field personnel to support design‑related questions and installation needs.
Revise working plans as required and complete final as‑built drawings upon project completion.
Accurately produce fabrication and purchasing stocklists and submit them on time to support procurement and installation.
Team Support & Communication
Maintain individual job status reports and communicate workload, scheduling, and progress with supervisors.
Assist sales teams with flow test information and AutoCAD drawings when needed.
Approach all tasks with professionalism, accountability, and a team‑first mindset.
Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years of fire sprinkler design or sprinkler industry experience (field experience a plus).
Minimum NICET Level I in Sprinkler Systems.
Working knowledge of NFPA standards and applicable building and fire codes.
Proficiency in AutoCAD 2018 or later; Revit experience is a plus.
Experience with Hydratec sprinkler design and calculation software.
Strong mathematical, organizational, and multitasking skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects in a deadline‑driven environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Detail‑oriented, dependable, and proactive problem solver.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
