Overview
Amazon is looking for a Construction Manager who will be responsible for project management of industrial development including new builds, retrofits, expansion, and program initiatives from site selection through contract execution.
Construction Managers oversee construction of new Fulfillment Centers (FCs) in the US, renovations and tenant improvements at existing FCs, and the implementation of facility network infrastructure such as sortation centers and delivery stations.
This role requires 60% regional travel and availability to work from a corporate office when not traveling.
Key Responsibilities
Manage project execution for new construction of Fulfillment Centers and capacity improvements at existing facilities.
Advise on schedule, cost, and permitting impacts.
Support scope review and development of engineering and design efforts for new and remodel projects.
Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ranging from small renovations to $100M+ new facilities.
Work independently in the assigned regional area with minimal direction.
Prepare reports, specifications, and technical analysis to define design requirements.
Provide technical direction for engineering design, AutoCAD, building layout, and construction details.
Audit facilities, evaluate infrastructure, safety, and security problems.
Negotiate contracts and contract changes with developers and General Contractors.
Ensure contracts are cost‑effective and incorporate appropriate service level agreements.
Coordinate subcontractors and oversee overall site management.
Facilitate due diligence for new opportunities and monitor project performance with key indicators.
Guide project teams through the full project lifecycle and address under‑performance.
Identify and resolve design and schedule conflicts with other Amazon execution teams.
Maintain information systems for scheduling and recording contract work.
Review designs and construction for compliance with building specifications.
Track and manage budget, forecast, and cost change requests.
Lead negotiations with regulatory bodies and authority having jurisdiction.
Communicate clearly and transparently across all teams.
Basic Qualifications
Completed Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or a comparable field.
7+ years of experience as an Architect, Engineer, Construction Manager, or related discipline.
7+ years of project management experience from design phase through implementation and operation.
7+ years of experience negotiating construction, procurement, and labor contracts.
Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (BIM), and scheduling software such as Primavera or MS Project.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with at least two disciplines within the construction industry (e.g., General Contracting, Owner’s Representation, Commercial Development, Engineering & Design).
Demonstrated success in communicating project requirements to diverse audiences such as senior management, peers, public officials, and vendors.
