Job Summary
As a Loss Prevention Market Manager (LPMM), you collaborate with assigned stores to ensure a safe environment by identifying risks and empowering store teams to implement changes. You partner to develop, implement, and manage inventory shrink initiatives that reduce shrink and enhance financial performance. You support annual physical inventories, analyze data to identify internal and external theft trends, and provide training on flagship loss prevention initiatives. You lead a team of market investigators, leveraging their expertise across the market to ensure successful day‑to‑day programs and key initiatives. You adapt quickly to changing situations and communicate clearly to support store teams.
Annual starting salary: $90,000 - $100,000, depending on experience, seniority, location, and other factors.
What You Do
Manage and ensure all physical security standards are in place and communicate risk exposures to Home Office Loss Prevention partners.
Conduct in‑store and virtual visits, walking the sales floor to identify merchandise protection opportunities and ensuring the floor is safe and free from hazards.
Execute and maintain shrink reduction and loss prevention awareness programs, measuring results.
Investigate and resolve inventory integrity issues with business partners.
Analyze data, review trends, and provide recommendations to prevent future incidents.
Assess compliance with loss prevention programs and identify risk gaps.
Advise and manage loss prevention issues with field management to determine impact, resolution, and preventive measures.
Tailor and manage loss prevention programs for the market, training store teams on safety, shrinkage reduction, and protocols.
Develop market investigators, providing motivation, feedback, development, and realistic goals aligned with store needs.
Write and review incident summaries and investigative reports that are timely, concise and accurate.
Manage internal and external investigations, including apprehending shoplifters and interviewing employees.
Ensure loss prevention programs align with the five bookstore principles: Presentation, Commerciality, Section Detail, Localization & Sense of Theater.
Prepare, execute, and reconcile the physical inventory process, guiding stores.
Manage health and safety issues, partnering and escalating as needed.
Use remote working technology (Teams, Outlook 365, etc.) and travel as required.
Knowledge & Experience
Must be able to commute to stores within Los Angeles and Orange Counties.
High‑school degree plus a minimum of eight years of retail loss prevention experience, with at least two years in a multi‑unit environment.
Strong collaboration with cross‑functional teams.
Ability to influence and manage teams without direct authority.
Experience coaching teams to deliver performance.
Proactive, multi‑project management with minimal supervision.
Strong organizational and analytical skills.
Understanding of general and civil liability.
Experience working with local law enforcement.
Knowledge of loss prevention and store operations principles.
Experience apprehending shoplifters and installing CCTV.
Clear, concise writing of incident summaries.
Strong investigator and interviewer with certifications.
Customer‑experience orientation.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Maintain confidentiality, discretion, and objectivity.
Demonstrate empathy in difficult situations.
Provide actionable feedback and coaching to motivate teams.
