SQL DBA (Infrastructure Focused) (JOB ID 002769) Our client is seeking an Infrastructure-Focused (Techno-Functional) SQL DBA Expert to join their Database Infrastructure and Cloud Operations team, which supports 400+ enterprise databases across manufacturing plants and core business systems, hosted both on-premises (data centers and plant sites) and in the cloud via AWS’s Relational Database Service (RDS). This team builds and operates databases end‑to‑end, partnering with application and business teams to support mission‑critical workloads, with Microsoft SQL Server (MS SQL) as the primary platform (70%), alongside PostgreSQL and MySQL (30%). The role is 60% hands‑on infrastructure DBA execution—including administration, patching, vulnerability management, compliance, monitoring, and governance—with 40% focused on expert leadership, complex initiatives, and serving as a trusted escalation point for cross‑team database decisions.

REQUIREMENTS:

10+ years of enterprise database administration experience with deep MS SQL Server infrastructure expertise, acting as the main POC for mission‑critical production systems across on‑prem and cloud environments.

Expert‑level MS SQL Server macro‑level administration across on‑prem and AWS RDS environments, including patching, vulnerability management, compliance, monitoring, governance, and automated deployment using CloudFormation.

Experience with PostgreSQL and MySQL (30%) to manage non‑Oracle databases used by plant‑floor and enterprise apps.

Expertise in database patching, vulnerability management, and compliance frameworks (e.g., SOX, CMMC, or similar), to maintain secure, audited, and regulatory‑compliant databases across the enterprise.

Deep knowledge of Redgate monitoring and governance to ensure database performance, availability, and operational risk are continuously managed.

Strong infrastructure knowledge (Windows Server, virtualization, networking, firewalls, DNS), for troubleshooting and effective collaboration with architecture and infrastructure experts.

PLUS:

Prior Aerospace / Manufacturing experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serve as the primary expert main POC at the macro‑level for MS SQL Server (70%) and PostgreSQL/MySQL (30%) across on‑premises data centers, plant sites, and AWS RDS (and some EC2) environments, ensuring high availability, stability, and performance for mission‑critical applications.

Lead patching, vulnerability management, and compliance activities, ensuring all databases meet enterprise security standards, regulatory requirements (SOX, CMMC, or similar), and vendor recommendations.

Monitor database health and operational risk using Redgate and other monitoring tools, proactively identifying and resolving performance or availability issues.

Troubleshoot complex database issues across infrastructure and applications, leveraging knowledge of Windows Server, virtualization, networking, and cloud environments.

Collaborate with solution architects, security teams, application owners, and managed services partners to ensure seamless database operations, alignment with enterprise standards, and successful execution of modernization initiatives.

Participate as a focal expert, contributing to forward‑looking discussions, guiding strategic decisions, and leading complex projects such as data center exit migrations and cloud adoption initiatives.

Provide governance and oversight for the shared database ecosystem, ensuring consistent processes, operational excellence, and adherence to best practices across the team.
