DCE - Ettihad Cultural Center, Community Relations Representative
Position Summary
This recruitment will fill two part‑time student support services positions in Diversity & Cultural Engagement at Oregon State University. The Community Relations Representative engages in community building, education, and support on behalf of Cultural Resource Centers and their initiatives. Students will focus on academic success, social justice, leadership, identity development, community & belonging, and well‑being.
Responsibilities
Assist in daily operations of Cultural Resource Centers and initiatives (e.g., giving tours, staffing front desk, maintaining attendance records, ensuring cleanliness, managing library materials).
Engage in mutual learning on identity development and social justice (e.g., staying current on issues, interrupting & educating about bias & microaggressions, raising awareness for underserved parts of the community).
Plan and lead community‑specific and collaborative events with support of DCE Center Directors and CRC student staff (e.g., heritage month celebrations, welcome week programs, Transgender Awareness Week, Sexual Assault Awareness Month programming).
Develop community resources, projects, and initiatives (e.g., communication projects such as publications or videos, resource development, distributing promotional materials, educational campaigns).
Support individuals’ connections to community (e.g., outreach to students, building relationships, providing listening, assisting in finding resources).
Contribute to a culture of respect and accountability (e.g., modeling self‑reflection, learning, personal and professional growth).
Promote involvement opportunities connected with DCE (e.g., hiring & volunteer opportunities, student organization involvement, participation in programming).
Engage peers and connect them to campus and community resources (e.g., Academic Success Center, Valley Library tutoring services, student clubs & organizations).
Act as a representative of the CRC (e.g., building relationships with student / community organizations, serving on planning committees for campus events such as Poverty Action Week).
Qualifications Minimum Requirements
Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.
Demonstrated commitment to self‑and community development and advocacy.
Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
Demonstrated knowledge of and sensitivity to historically under‑represented and/or marginalized groups.
Preferred Qualifications
Involvement within under‑represented and/or marginalized groups on campus (e.g., cultural events, student organizations).
Experience in planning or leading programs / events.
Experience having conversations about identity and social justice.
Experience with effective time‑management.
