Public Works Maintenance Worker

Perform semi-skilled labor related activities involved with maintenance of water lines and appurtenances, sanitary sewer systems, streets and storm drains and other maintenance as directed. Perform routine and unique maintenance of equipment, infrastructure and facilities to provide longevity and cost-effective solutions while improving knowledge of City assets.
Performs street maintenance activities with minimal supervision in the field
Cleans storm drains and drainage ditches
Performs semi-skilled related work on water and sewer lines and associated equipment
Reads water meters
Activates and terminates water supply in residential domains
Assist in the removal of snow and ice on City streets
Operates small and heavy equipment
Performs general repairs and routine maintenance on City buildings and facilities
Performs all other related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills Knowledge of:
Confined space, equipment operation, pumping operations, and street maintenance
Ability to
Follow instructions and complete assignments in a timely manner
Skills in
Performing general maintenance procedures
Supervision Received
The work is performed under the supervision of the Public Works Maintenance Superintendent

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED or equivalent required
Must have or be able to acquire State of Missouri Class A CDL within first 6 months of employment
Preferred Qualifications
General facilities maintenance knowledge
Two (2) years experience in related field or associates degree in related field
Pertinent water and sanitary certifications
Work Environment
The primary duties of this position are performed in a public building environment and outdoors and may include working on rooftops and in adverse weather conditions and hazards involving the use of power tools and equipment and hazardous chemicals.
Adverse outdoor working conditions including extreme heat and cold and inclement weather
Exposure to dirt and dust
Essential Physical Abilities
Sufficient clarity of hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions and alarm and warning systems, including backup alarms
Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions and work orders
Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate a variety of power and hand tools and to make adjustments to equipment
Sufficient strength to lift objects over 50 pounds
Sufficient body flexibility and balance to perform maintenance and repair operations which require climbing and working on ladders and power lifts
