Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program (BHCHP) aims to provide equitable, dignified access to high-quality health care for people experiencing homelessness in greater Boston. We operate across more than 30 locations delivering comprehensive care through clinicians, case managers, and behavioral health professionals. Job Summary

Hours: Part-Time; 20-24 hours per week, includes overnight shifts (7:00pm – 7:30am) and some day shifts. Majority of shifts are overnight. Additional 4-hour shifts at other low-threshold sites. Union: Yes. Union Name: 1199 SEIU. Patient Facing: Yes. BHCHP is seeking a part-time technician to work in our harm reduction program at sedation monitoring programs at low-threshold shelters throughout the city. Technicians may be required to work at other harm reduction locations as needed, including but not limited to Woods Mullen Shelter, 112 Southampton Street Shelter, and SPOT (Supportive Place for Observation and Treatment). You will provide in-the-moment, low-threshold medical access to patients who may not present to shelter clinics. In sedation monitoring, you will ensure that sedated patients are triaged and monitored in a supportive environment with the goal of reducing harm from drug use. Services include clinical assessments, clinical case management, medical monitoring, intervention in overdose or emergencies, and immediate linkages to addiction treatment and primary care. The goals are to reduce overdose deaths and connect patients to addiction treatment. The ideal candidate is a compassionate, self-motivated professional who aligns with BHCHP’s mission and delivers high-quality clinical care using a harm reduction approach in a low-threshold setting. This position is funded until the end of December 2026 with the possibility of renewal; if funding is not renewed, the position ends December 31, 2026. Responsibilities

Direct clinical care to meet patient needs in accordance with policies, procedures, and Department of Public Health regulations. Serve as the first responder in medical emergencies at all sites. Provide supportive, non-judgmental clinical support for patients with substance use disorder in line with Harm Reduction Principles. Provide basic wound care and skin assessment. Accurate assessment of sedation, documentation, and appropriate clinical intervention. Coordinate with clinical supports for care coordination and high standards of patient care. Provide risk reduction counseling and connection to treatment programs. Maintain accurate treatment records, flow sheets, and other documentation. Communication

Maintain direct communication with harm reduction and shelter staff; communicate shift needs to supervisor as needed. Maintain a professional approach. Ensure accurate recording and reporting to keep the clinical record current. Team-Based Collaboration

Work as part of a team including the Director and Supervisor of Harm Reduction Technicians, shelter clinic staff, and related site staff. Qualifications

Commonwealth of Massachusetts EMT Certification required. Minimum of 1-2 years EMT experience. Strong assessment skills; self-directed, motivated, and able to work independently and as part of a team. Pharmacological understanding of sedating medications and knowledge of opioid overdose management and brief interventions. Understanding of substance use disorder and behavioral health issues. Interest and experience with underserved populations preferred. Interest in public health, primary and preventive care, and working with disadvantaged groups. Compensation is $31.11 per hour. Full-time BHCHP employees are eligible for time off, health, dental, and vision insurance, 403B retirement plan, pre-tax MBTA pass with 40% discount, and additional compensation for demonstrated bilingual proficiency.
