Purchasing Agent . As a member of the Branch Operations Team, the Purchasing Agent is responsible for ensuring product availability to meet customer demand within company financial and service level requirements by assisting with locally‑stocked supplier and product management, creating forecasts and purchase orders, and managing product life‑cycle activities. Responsibilities
Creates accurate inventory forecasts and plans to meet customer needs, company fill‑rate and turnover goals. Seeks optimal balance between product costs, lead time, order minimums, and other factors. Studies special buy opportunities to optimize return on investment. Reviews forecasts, determines delivery dates and places purchase orders promptly. Ensures ordering for flyers, price changes, preseason and promotional programs follows schedules and vendor terms. Communicates with internal stakeholders regarding delivery, backorders, shortages, price changes and supplier issues. Coordinates with branch operations on special and large buys, communicating space requirements, delivery details, and special handling instructions. Initiates and coordinates inter‑store transfers to rebalance inventory. Troubleshoots backorder problems, expedites orders, and communicates exceptions. Participates in locally‑stocked supplier selection, negotiates terms and pricing, and maintains product data. Prevents overstock, slow‑moving and obsolete inventory, and manages product return processes. Troubleshoots invoicing and receiving discrepancies. Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business or related field; 5‑7 years of experience, or equivalent combination. Knowledge of forecasting theories, inventory principles and distribution operations. Proficiency in business math (arithmetic, algebra, ratio, margin, interest). Understanding of purchasing‑related accounting and financial reporting. Skill in using Microsoft Office Suite. Experience using company software to manage inventory and purchasing; Eclipse preferred. Strong problem‑solving, analytical, time‑management, multitasking, and organizational skills. Diplomatic, tactful communication and relationship‑building abilities. Values & Behaviors
