Summary CYP Assistants work directly with children and youth, keeping them actively engaged, well‑cared for, and safe while participating in the CYP. The CYP Assistant's day includes helping children develop social skills such as making friends and conflict resolution; making healthy choices whether it be choosing nutritional snacks or appropriate recreational activities; building self‑help and school readiness skills; and exploring the environment around them.

Duties

Curriculum . Develops schedules and activity plans; facilitates planned and spontaneous program activities; promotes and models safety, fitness, health, and nutrition practices.

Indoor and Outdoor Environment . Helps prepare, arrange, and maintain activity areas and materials.

Interactions and Relationships . Establishes a program environment that sustains participant interest; interacts with children using approved guidance techniques.

Supervision of Children and Youth . Provides care and supervision, maintaining control and accountability; observes for signs of illness, abuse, or neglect; reports as directed.

Parent and Employee Communication . Interacts professionally with parents and employees; provides feedback on child progress.

Assessment . Observes, documents developmental progression, participates in program evaluation.

Compliance . Assists in achieving and maintaining DoD certification and national accreditation; ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Additional Responsibilities . Collects, maintains, and reports program participation data; performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Must be 18 years of age or older.

Complete required training certificates and maintain certifications or credentials required by Federal, State, and/or national accreditation institutions.

Pass all applicable records and background checks.

Undergo pre‑employment and random drug testing; a positive drug test or failure to submit is a basis for removal.

Pass a pre‑employment physical, provide evidence of immunization, be free of communicable diseases, and obtain appropriate immunization.

Employment contingent upon proof of education if not provided at time of application.

Marijuana is a Schedule I drug under the Controlled Substances Act; use of marijuana is illegal under Federal law.

A positive drug test result for marijuana (or any other drug tested for) will result in withdrawal of the tentative job offer and ineligibility to apply for a position within the Department of Defense for 6 months from the date of the drug test.

This position has been identified as a Test Designated Position (TDP). The incumbent will be subject to and must consent to a pre‑employment and random drug testing.

Qualifications

Entry Level (CY-1702‑01): Ability to communicate effectively; follow instructions; complete DoN training; foster effective relationships; work cooperatively as a team member.

Intermediate Level: Entry level abilities plus knowledge of basic child and youth development principles; implement developmentally appropriate practices; plan and organize; 6 months of experience.

Target Level: Entry and intermediate knowledge plus higher level of knowledge; one year of experience; skill in implementing developmentally appropriate principles.

Education

Must provide a copy of H.S. Diploma, GED, or College transcripts.

Entry Level: High school diploma or equivalent.

Intermediate Level: High school diploma or equivalent, 6 months experience, completion of Navy Entry Level training.

Target Level: High school diploma or equivalent, one year experience, and completion of DoD standardized training courses or CDA/MSA credential or a minimum 2‑year degree in a relevant field.
