GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB DUTIES

GoTriangle is looking for a Public Engagement Coordinator who's ready to help build trust, foster collaboration, and strengthen public participation in regional transit planning. In this role, you'll work with our Public Engagement and Planning Manager to create strategies that make sure our riders and communities are informed, heard, and involved in shaping the transit system they rely upon.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES You’ll be at the heart of how GoTriangle connects with the public. Your day-to-day will include:
Creating Clear and Accessible Information
Developing and maintaining a library of easy-to-understand materials like flyers, FAQs, program information, and talking points.
Coordinating translation and interpretation services so all community members - including Limited English Proficiency (LEP) riders - have access to vital information.
Keeping customers informed about routes, projects, fares, programs like GoPass, and other rider resources.
Engaging Around Service Changes and Capital Investments
Helping plan and lead public engagement activities for bus service changes, capital investments, and fare updates.
Making sure riders and the public know what’s changing and have real opportunities to share their feedback.
Representing GoTriangle with Integrity
Implementing tabling and canvassing activities, facilitating conversations, and representing GoTriangle with confidence and positivity in rider‑centric locations and public events.
Coordinating and staffing outreach events with creative engagement ideas, easy‑to‑understand materials, useful and branded swag, and great conversations.
Building and maintaining effective working relationships with staff from peer transit and governmental agencies to support interagency communication, project coordination, and information sharing.
Maintaining a professional appearance and a respectful attitude.
Understanding and Representing Our Riders
Riding GoTriangle routes regularly to understand what our customers experience.
Helping collect and analyze feedback from surveys and engagement efforts.
Ensuring our surveys and feedback tools are inclusive and accessible to everyone.
Helping Grow Rider Loyalty You’ll contribute to initiatives that keep riders coming back by helping GoTriangle raise awareness about our high standards for:
Accessibility and ease of use
Cleanliness and safety
Frequency and reliability
Clear, accurate, and timely information
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, urban planning, public administration, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Three (3) or more years of experience in public engagement, community relations, or communications‑preferably in a government, nonprofit, or transit setting.
Experience working with diverse populations and communities, including those with Limited English Proficiency (LEP).
Skills & Abilities
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical information into accessible language.
Demonstrated ability to build trust and maintain relationships with community members and partner organizations.
Skilled in event coordination, facilitation, and public speaking.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Bilingual or multilingual (Spanish, Chinese, Hindi, or other languages) preferred.
Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, to support outreach events.
Valid North Carolina driver’s license and ability to travel throughout the region.
An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the above stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.
Working Conditions Works in an environment where there is minimum exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be moderately exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals while visiting operating facilities, during which the incumbent should observe all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and use all protective clothing and devices provided.
Physical Requirements Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing are required only occasionally.
