Panel Layout Technician
4-Guys Fire Trucks, a leading and nationally recognized manufacturer of custom fire apparatus, is seeking a Panel Layout Technician to join their production team in Meyersdale, Pennsylvania. The Panel Layout Technician will be responsible for cutting, forming, welding, and assembling metal components used in the construction of high-quality fire trucks. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work in a fast-paced shop environment. Duties and responsibilities include: Learn and follow safety procedures including PPE use, fire/welding safety, hazard recognition, lockout/tagout awareness, and safe operation of cranes/hoists and shop machinery. Measure and verify metal materials and finished parts using tape measures, calipers, squares, gauges, and other precision tools to ensure accuracy and compliance with required tolerances. Learn to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, weld symbols, cut lists, and part orientation details used in the fabrication process. Inlay out metal stock for cutting, bending, drilling, and welding; mark cut lines and hole locations; prepare surfaces and materials for fabrication. Safely set up and operate shears, brakes, drill presses, plasma/flame cutters, saws, rollers, and grinders to process metal into required shapes and dimensions. Use cranes, hoists, jacks, and clamping systems to safely lift, move, position, and secure workpieces and assemblies for fabrication and welding operations. Position and align parts using jigs, fixtures, and layout tools; clamp or secure pieces for assembly; prepare joints for welding and ensure proper fit. Complete tack welds and final welds (MIG/Stick or applicable process), monitor heat and weld penetration, minimize distortion, and inspect weld quality. Grind and smooth welds, remove defects, prepare surfaces for painting/coating, perform quality checks, verify final dimensions, and complete final assemblies with decreasing supervision. Qualifications: Welding and/or metal fabrication experience preferred (training available for motivated candidates) Ability to read tape measures and basic tools accurately Blueprint/print reading experience a plus Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills Reliable attendance and ability to work well in a team environment Physical ability to lift, bend, stand, and handle shop tools and materials
