Under general supervision, is responsible for the removal of municipal waste and snow and ice control in an assigned district of the City; assigns personnel and equipment within the district. Examples of duties include: Assigning forepersons and workers to sections of the designated district to perform cleaning of streets and alleys and refuse collection. Performing periodic inspections to ensure adherence to the assigned schedule. Receiving and investigating special complaints and following up to ensure that issues are properly addressed. Directing the removal and disposal of snow or obstructions and the salting or sanding of icy streets during or following storms. Maintaining time and production records and preparing a variety of reports. Reviewing collection yardage reports and historical records, and consulting with section forepersons in assigning workers and trucks to the various sections. Reviewing requests and preparing schedules for the collection of irregular refuse. Performing periodic reviews of collection routes and making changes as required. Instructing employees in the care and operation of equipment and suggesting improvements in work methods. Handling personnel matters such as discipline, vacation schedules, and work related disputes among employees. Investigating and reporting on accidents. Ensuring proper maintenance of equipment. Inspecting and reporting on the general condition of the assigned district. Reporting to superior on the availability, distribution, condition and adequacy of truck fleet. Acting for superior in their absence. Reassigning personnel and equipment and assuming charge of emergency relief work in unusual situations such as work stoppages, shortages of supervisory personnel and/or severe or emergency weather conditions, such as snow, ice or floods. Minimum Qualifications

High School graduation or GED. Two years experience in planning and supervising the activities of a large fleet of trucks and workers engaged in collecting and disposing of municipal waste. Evaluation Plan
