Job Title: Tax Preparer
Department/Business Unit: Managed Operations
Reports to: Office Supervisor
Status: Seasonal
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Job Summary Tax Preparer role involves preparing accurate tax returns for individuals and small businesses, providing exceptional customer service, and staying current with tax regulations and laws. The Tax Preparer will play a critical role in helping clients achieve financial success and compliance.
Responsibilities
Prepare individual and small business tax returns accurately and efficiently.
Review financial records to determine needed forms.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Provide outstanding customer service by addressing client concerns in a timely manner.
Conduct client interviews to gather information.
Explain tax return outcomes and provide tax planning advice.
Stay updated on current tax laws and regulations through ongoing education.
Verify the accuracy of data entered into tax software.
Maintain organized records of all client interactions and returns.
Ensure documents are filed correctly and securely.
Keep up to date with client files and follow up on missing info.
Participate in training sessions to maintain credentials.
Collaboration: work closely with other professionals and staff, assist in mentoring junior staff, assist in marketing execution.
Qualifications
Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws.
Proficiency in tax preparation software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Superior communication skills, verbal and written.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Must have PTIN or be eligible to receive one.
Education and Experience
Associate's degree in accounting, finance, or related field; or equivalent experience.
Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in tax preparation.
Physical Requirements Position requires working at a desk for periods of time; overtime and weekend work may be required, especially during tax season.
