FAR INSPECTIONS
Join FAR INSPECTIONS as a Mortgage Field Services Inspector. FAR Inspections is looking for highly motivated individuals to perform residential occupancy verifications on behalf of mortgage lenders.
Independent contractors earn predictable full‑time or supplemental income and enjoy a flexible schedule. Experience with mortgage field inspections is not required but an ability to effectively manage time and meet deadlines is crucial. The opportunity is based in Reno, NV, and FAR Inspections has been in business for over 9 years.
What is an Occupancy Verification? Mortgage lenders require periodic updates on their properties and send out independent contractors for inspections. The purpose of the property inspection is:
To verify property occupancy.
To report on the general condition of the property using a mobile application.
Most inspections are exterior only, with about 10% requiring interior photos after a property has gone vacant. Inspectors work at a county level and are responsible for completing all inspections in their county, sometimes sharing the county with a second inspector if volume permits.
Responsibilities
Most common type of inspection should only take 5–6 minutes.
Complete the inspection within 4 days after it is assigned.
Report general property conditions and make a determination of occupancy based on industry standards.
Take 9+ photos of the property with brief comments.
Complete a short form in an app.
Be able to spend extended periods driving, making numerous stops during the day in the assigned territory.
Requirements
Computer with an internet connection.
Reliable vehicle (good gas mileage is a plus as you will be paying for your own gas).
Smartphone (Android or iPhone).
Printer.
Pass a standard background check using a valid driver’s license.
Pay and Hours This is a 1099 position. Each inspection has a flat rate. Rates vary based on county and volume. Although you are paid per inspection, you will earn the equivalent of
$30–$40 per hour.
Depending on the county and whether it is urban or rural you will complete anywhere from 20–500 inspections per month, working 2–30 hours per week. Lower volume counties have higher rates and higher volume counties have lower rates. There is no set number of inspections per month, but the work is consistent month‑to‑month.
Earn more as you become established, have greater availability to inspect, or are willing to cover a larger territory.
No additional mileage reimbursement above the flat fee per inspection.
