University & Athletics Westcliff University was established to provide quality education for students wishing to enter the fast‑growing fields of Business and Education. The university offers graduate and undergraduate degree programs in business and education as well as other certificate programs. Westcliff Athletics is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and competes in the California Pacific Conference (Cal Pac). Qualifications

Years of experience: 3–5 years

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred

Must be BOC certified

Current CPR/AED certification

NATA membership preferred

2+ years of athletic training experience preferred

Experience working with collegiate student‑athletes

Responsibilities

Assist with the organization and supervision of student‑athletes in all sports, with primary sports responsibility determined by the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine

Assist with pre‑participation physical examinations and medical clearance paperwork

Prepare timely and accurate documents, e.g., injury/illness reports, care and reconditioning updates, daily athletic training records, injury/illness summaries for coaches, medical and other correspondence. Properly document injuries as well as treatment and rehabilitation sessions of injured athletes.

Assist with administering athletic insurance and follow up with Insurance Coordinator and student athlete as needed

Utilize evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation techniques when providing health care for student‑athletes

Refer student athletes to the Team Physician, Athletic Training staff and other Westcliff University staff (including Academics) regarding injured or sick athletes including strength and conditioning parameters and limitations associated with injury rehabilitation

Maintain athletic training facilities and equipment in a safe and sanitary condition

Maintain a work schedule in the athletic training room in cooperation with and as assigned by the Director of Athletics

Familiar and up to date with current protocols regarding concussion, heat illness, inclement weather, etc.

Follow departmental Emergency Action Plans

Perform other responsibilities as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Athletic trainers must be knowledgeable about risk reduction, wellness and health literacy; assessment, evaluation and diagnosis of injuries and illnesses; critical incident management; therapeutic intervention and healthcare administration and professional responsibility

Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and return to play decisions

Attention to detail, thorough and diligent injury tracking and documentation

Interpersonal skills: ability to communicate effectively in high‑stress/pressure situations with patients, medical professionals, staff, and families

Ability to organize, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision

Reports to Director of Athletics and Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine

Collaborates with: Coaches, sports medicine staff, team physicians, academic staff

Provides guidance to student‑athletes regarding health, safety, and rehabilitation practices

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

Work performed indoors and outdoors; frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 80 lbs; travel required for practices and competitions

Local travel frequent to off‑campus practice sites, competition venues, and medical facilities; occasional regional travel (~20–30% of the role)

Work occurs in both indoor and outdoor environments, including athletic fields, gyms, training rooms, and medical facilities. Exposure to sun, wind, rain, and varied temperatures (~50% indoors / 50% outdoors)

Exposure to moderate risk conditions: exercise equipment, training tables, taping stations, therapeutic modalities; wet or slippery surfaces; weather‑related conditions (heat, cold, rain, humidity); high‑activity environments with fast‑moving athletes

Standing ~50%; walking/moving between facilities ~30%; sitting (documentation, admin tasks) ~20%

Applicants must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license in order to travel to and from practices and home competitions.
