DLR Group, an integrated design firm, invites applications for the Mechanical Engineer Team Leader position in Phoenix, AZ. Location
Phoenix, AZ Position Summary
As the Mechanical Engineering Team Leader, you will lead the design of mechanical systems for buildings across sectors such as Higher Education, Culture & Performing Arts, Healthcare, K-12, Justice/Civic, Science & Technology, and Energy. You will oversee a mechanical engineering team, produce high‑quality construction documents using Revit, manage project schedules, and collaborate closely with other disciplines to deliver integrated building designs. Responsibilities
Manage operations, execution, and expectations for the Mechanical Engineering Discipline in the Southwest region. Create project workplans and manage staff to achieve profitability goals. Assign duties, responsibilities, and projects to personnel, balancing staffing and workload to drive profit and revenue growth. Schedule, facilitate, and document meetings with staff and clients related to overall operations. Partner with sector and practice leadership for recruitment, training, and evaluation of personnel. Support business development by assisting the RFP process, participating in project interviews, and engaging in community and industry organizations to build the DLR Group brand. Maintain industry‑leading workplace practices to foster a great place to work. Develop mechanical designs from concept through construction completion, including design calculations, detailed reports, narratives, and coordination of mechanical design requirements. Perform quality control of mechanical engineering plans and specifications. Direct or coordinate activities of personnel, vendors, and consultants. Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Licensed Mechanical Engineer. 12+ years of experience as a mechanical engineer, including HVAC, central utility plants, plumbing, and fire suppression systems. Working knowledge of design and construction processes and ability to communicate with professionals of other disciplines. Prior experience leading engineering teams. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience with BIM workflows (e.g., Autodesk Revit MEP). Preferred Qualifications
LEED Accredited Professional and experience participating in LEED or other green rating processes. Prior experience in Healthcare mechanical design. Experience and interest in sustainable building design. About DLR Group
