TPWD - Seasonal Maintenance Specialist I (Operations Ranger – Fluctuating Hours) TPWD MISSION: To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the enjoyment of present and future generations.

Physical Work Address: Garner State Park, 234 RR 1050, Concan, TX 78838

General Description Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, this position performs entry‑level building maintenance and construction work and assists with the operation and maintenance of Garner State Park. Responsibilities include preventative maintenance of cabins, restrooms, and other facilities; sweeping, mopping, dusting, painting, cleaning restrooms; assisting customers; maintaining and repairing park facilities, buildings, equipment, vehicles and grounds; operating various equipment (mowers, trimmers, power tools, tractors, vehicles); and providing visitor assistance. Works under close supervision with minimal latitude for initiative and may perform additional duties as assigned. Hours fluctuate between full‑time and part‑time based on operational needs.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Completion of 8th grade.

Experience: General ground, facilities or equipment maintenance experience.

Licensure: Valid state driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: High school graduation or GED.

Experience: Experience working with the public.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

General facility, building and grounds repair and cleaning techniques.

Landscaping and grounds maintenance techniques.

Custodial duties and basic mathematics.

Computer skills: MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Effective verbal and written communication.

Customer service capabilities.

Sound and timely decision-making.

Safe operation of hand, power tools and mechanical equipment.

Report and form preparation.

Independent work with minimal supervision.

Manual labor ability, including lifting up to 50 lbs.

Compliance with TPWD safety program.

Working Conditions

10–40 hours per week, with nonstandard hours; days off may be other than Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

Fluctuation between part‑time and full‑time may affect leave, longevity pay, and health insurance.

Outdoor work, occasionally in adverse weather; manual labor up to 50 lbs; possible state vehicle operation.

Approximately 5% travel with possible overnight stays.

Required to conform to TPWD dress, grooming, work rules, and safety procedures; non‑smoking environment.
