TaxDrop
Senior Property Tax Consultant (Licensed, Texas)
TaxDrop, Granite Heights, Wisconsin, United States
Senior Property Tax Consultant (Licensed, Texas)
Location: Remote (Texas-based required for licensure)
Employment Type: Contract / Fractional (Scaling to Full-Time in April 2026)
Compensation: Base + Commission
The Opportunity: TaxDrop is not a traditional property tax consulting firm; we are a PropTech startup building the tech-enabled future of property tax defense -- leveraging large data sets, automation, and AI to the tax savings space. Founded by two San Francisco-based tech entrepreneurs and licensed property tax consultants, our mission is "making tax reduction accessible and convenient for every American."
We're launching in 2026 and looking for our first key hire: a Senior Licensed Property Tax Consultant who serves as both our regulatory anchor and our domain expert.
You won't just file protests—you will teach our development team and AI system how to win them. You will work directly with the founders and engineering team to translate your deep intuition of Texas and California tax codes into a software application for property tax savings.
What You Will Do:
Regulatory Sponsorship (Critical): Serve as the sole designated Senior Property Tax Consultant for TaxDrop's firm registration with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), ensuring full compliance with Occupations Code Ch. 1152.
Cross-Jurisdictional Appeals: Manage a high-volume portfolio of protests.
Texas: Execute appeals using our proprietary data tools (which you will also contribute to building) to secure reductions in all Texas counties, but especially major metros.
California: Identify and file appeals for residential and commercial assets.
AI Knowledge Engineering: Act as the "Human-in-the-Loop" for our AI development. You will review AI-generated appeal evidence, correct errors, and (along with our engineer and founders) help refine the algorithms that power our platform.
Settlement & Hearings: Represent clients in informal settlement discussions and formal ARB/AAB hearings. (Must be comfortable presenting via phone/web-meeting for remote hearings in both TX and CA).
Who You Are:
Licensed: You hold an Active Senior Property Tax Consultant License in Texas. (Required for firm sponsorship; standard Registered Consultants cannot fulfill this legal requirement).
Experienced: 4+ years of experience handling residential and commercial appeals. You know the specific deadlines (May 15th in TX, Sept 15th/Nov 30th in CA) and how to triage thousands of accounts efficiently.
Tech-Forward Mindset: You are tired of the "paper and binder" era of tax consulting. You are proficient in Excel and curious about AI. You understand that the future of this industry is tech-driven and ready for an efficiency boost.
Multi-State Comfortable: You are able to execute effective appeals in Texas and California, as well as additional states in coming years.
Compensation & Incentives:
Monthly Retainer: Guaranteed baseline pay for advisory work, AI training, and regulatory sponsorship (paid year-round, even in off-season).
Performance Commission: Significant percentage split of revenue generated from successful tax reductions.
Why This Role? Most tax jobs ask you to work in the business. We are asking you to help us design the business. This is a rare chance to monetize your license and expertise with a high-growth tech startup while maintaining the flexibility of remote work.
