Fabrication Lead – Federal Signal Corporation
Job Summary
Responsible for meeting customer needs by:
Assisting the Value Steam Supervisor with leading the Value Stream following Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory and Productivity (SQDIP)
Assisting Value Stream Supervisor with Continuous Improvement and Kaizen events to reach established TBEI goals and initiatives
Providing timely information to employees, Value Stream Supervisor and other areas as required (i.e., documentation, reports)
Assisting with employee performance appraisals and helping hold employees accountable for performing, following safety guidelines and attendance expectations
Assisting the Value Stream Supervisor with identifying training needs, providing training, and floating within the responsibility area where needed
Securing building following shifts and opening building prior to production each day
Completing nesting for all new material on Laser and Plasma machines, including expedites
Ensuring Cutting and Bending has the correct work in front of them following FIFO principles
Managing missing parts and/or part shortages as they arise; includes locating missing parts and driving expedites
Facilitating Night‑Shift transition, ensuring a clean hand‑off of priorities through the shift
Machines/Tools:
Plasma tanks, brake presses, drill presses, saws, manual lathes, Bridgeport, Whitney, Laser, iron worker, overhead hoists, forklift trucks, computer, hand tools, power tools, measuring devices such as micrometers and t‑squares
Essential Functions / Competency
An understanding of lean principles and the ability to lead employees in the use of the lean tools
Open to understanding and implementing new processes. Must lead by example with a positive attitude, following safety rules and work procedures, etc.
Organization and time urgency – must be able to work on multiple projects with deadlines
Understanding of BOMs and product flow; product knowledge preferred
Willingness to learn and understand operations involved with the area of assignment (may include welding, CNC machine operation, installation and fabrication machinery)
Completing and complying with annual Hazardous Waste Management Training for waste management, storage, transport and record keeping
Work safely following safety procedures, including wearing PPE, completing maintenance requests and communicating hazards to co‑workers and management; assisting with root cause analysis and resolution of accident investigations
Post‑high school education strongly preferred
Interpersonal skills and positive attitude to assist manager with finding and resolving problems
Physical Demands
Prompt and reliable attendance; overtime and odd hours may be required to meet customer needs
Excellent communication skills to regularly communicate and/or discuss issues affecting production, equipment, personnel, safety and their resolutions with management before shift changes and as necessary
Ability to walk and stand on concrete for 90% of the shift; able to lift up to 50 lbs
Good oral and written communication skills; public speaking necessary to lead others in safety, training, group meetings, etc.
Computer proficiency, specifically word documents and spreadsheets
Valid driver’s license with good driving record required
Additional Job Information
Wage Expectations: $25.00 to $29.00 per hour
Pay: Non‑exempt, hourly position; paid bi‑weekly
Typical Schedule: Four (4) Ten (10) hour days M‑F; overtime may be available on the 5th day of the week and/or Saturdays
Location: On‑site – 52182 Ember Road, Lake Crystal MN 56055
Travel: Very minimal to none
