Accounting Specialist

The Accounting Specialist will assist in preparing and maintaining financial records to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities.
Duties/Responsibilities
Perform general accounting and other related duties for the organization.
Assist in preparation of monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
Complete month‑end close procedures.
Maintain the general ledger, assets and liabilities.
May assist with:
Coding invoices, setting up new accounts, reconciling accounts, and closing the monthly books.
Reconciling bank accounts at least monthly, verifying deposits, and addressing inquiries from banks.
Reconciling cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts; managing accounts receivable collections.
Verifying and/or completing payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensuring payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
Provide outside auditors with assistance; gather necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
File tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies if applicable.
Coordinate with software vendor to maintain accounting software systems; recommend updates to enhance the accounting software.
Maintain knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
Required Skills & Abilities
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software.
Analytical mind with strong conceptual and problem‑solving skills.
Excellent report writing with advanced Excel skills.
Strong analytical, communication, and computer skills.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field with at least 1+ year of related experience.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
