Job Description About Portland Housing Center Portland Housing Center (PHC) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1991 with support from the City of Portland, local banks, and a concerned community. We were founded to ensure all Portland residents have equal access to information and resources to achieve homeownership. Today, we serve the 5-county Portland metro area and provide financial services across the state of Oregon. We specialize in providing first time homebuyers with education, counseling, financial resources, and other homebuying support. Bilingual Community Engagement Coordinator . This position plays a vital role in expanding our reach to Portland’s Spanish-speaking and Latinx communities and advancing our strategic goals around equity, outreach, and access.

Position Summary The Community Engagement Coordinator develops and executes PHC’s community outreach strategy, with a focus on increasing participation among Spanish-speaking and Latinx households. This role will collaborate with internal teams and external partners to grow awareness of PHC services through a host of outreach initiatives, including, but limited to, tabling and community events, coordinating volunteers, and contributing to social media and marketing efforts.

The ideal candidate is bilingual (Spanish/English), culturally responsive, with the ability to confidently engage with Spanish-speaking clients and stakeholders, highly organized, and passionate about equitable access to homeownership.

Reports to Strategic Initiatives Manager

Major Responsibilities

Implement a culturally specific outreach plan targeting Spanish-speaking and Latinx communities

Staff tabling events, community fairs, and outreach activities in partnership with PHC program staff

Collaborate with the Strategic Initiatives Manager and Homeownership team to increase client registrations and engagement

Coordinate and support outreach events, including logistics, promotion, and volunteer recruitment

Build and maintain relationships with community-based organizations, local employers, churches, and media outlets

Manage or support PHC’s social media presence, ensuring culturally appropriate and engaging content

Translate and adapt outreach materials and messaging as needed

Track outreach activities and assist in evaluating engagement impact

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Fluent in Spanish and English (spoken and written)

Experience in community outreach, engagement, or organizing — preferably in a nonprofit, housing, or culturally specific setting

Strong relationship-building and public communication skills

Experience planning or staffing outreach events, workshops, or tabling

Familiarity with social media, Canva, and/or digital marketing tools preferred

Comfortable working independently and as part of a cross-functional team

Commitment to equity, inclusion, and economic justice for underserved communities

Knowledge of homeownership services, housing access, or financial empowerment a plus

Exceptional organizational and written communication skills

Experience in public speaking and presenting to diverse audiences

Commitment to racial equity, affordable housing, and community-driven solutions

Proficient with Microsoft Office; Salesforce or grant tracking software experience preferred

Working Conditions Normal office environment. Some lifting required (20-40 lbs.). Ability to work frequent evenings and weekends. Travel to other training locations is periodically required.

PHC provides a normal office environment. This is a Full-Time, 40 hour/week exempt position located in Portland, OR. PHC operates on a hybrid work model (currently at least two (2) 8‑hour days per week in the office), which is subject to change.

The salary range for this position is $56,000 - $61,000 per year, commensurate with experience and skills. PHC offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401k matching, generous paid leave, family and medical leave, and more.
