The Dietary Aide is responsible for assisting with the preparation and service of meals to residents in accordance with individual dietary plans, preferences, and established guidelines. This role supports the dietary team to ensure residents receive nutritious meals prepared and served in a safe, sanitary, and timely manner while maintaining a high standard of customer service and professionalism.
Responsibilities
A successful Dietary Aide will be able to:
Meal Preparation:
Assist in the preparation of meals according to planned menus, following specific dietary guidelines and portion control standards.
Food Service:
Serve meals in dining areas or deliver trays to resident rooms, ensuring accuracy of meal orders and compliance with dietary restrictions.
Dietary Assistance:
Assist residents with menu selections while considering individual dietary needs, preferences, and restrictions.
Sanitation & Safety:
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchens, dining areas, and equipment in accordance with food safety standards and regulations.
Inventory Management:
Monitor food and supply levels, notify supervisors of shortages, and assist with restocking and ordering as needed.
Documentation:
Accurately record food and fluid intake as required and maintain documentation in compliance with regulatory guidelines.
Communication:
Communicate effectively with residents, family members, and interdisciplinary team members regarding dietary needs, concerns, and preferences.
Special Diet Preparation:
Assist with the preparation of special diet items, including pureed or mechanically altered foods, ensuring adherence to dietary guidelines.
Team Collaboration:
Work collaboratively with dietary managers, nutritionists, and kitchen staff to ensure efficient and effective meal service.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent
Previous experience in food service or a healthcare setting preferred
Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation practices
Ability to follow dietary restrictions and special diet instructions
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift/carry food trays
Customer service skills
Physical Requirements
Standing up to 95% of the time
Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. (approximately 25% of the time)
Pushing and pulling up to 50 lbs. (approximately 25% of the time)
Bending, twisting, reaching, and similar movements (approximately 25% of the time)
Work Environment / Exposure
Exposure to cleaning chemicals and food service materials
Exposure to confidential materials
Moderate to high noise levels due to kitchen equipment
Work hours may include evenings, weekends, and holidays
Work areas include kitchen, dining areas, and resident rooms
Possible exposure to hot surfaces, sharp utensils, and cleaning agents
