The Head of Capital Markets is a strategic leader responsible for the design, execution and implementation of capital markets solutions that optimize the Company’s balance sheet. Reporting to the Treasurer, this role partners closely with the actuarial, investments, risk, finance and operations teams to ensure capital markets solutions align with the Company’s strategy, balance sheet objectives, regulatory requirements and long-term financial performance. The role is expected to lead capital markets transactions, manage external relationships, and provide thought leadership on optimal capital, liquidity and collateral structures and corresponding funding strategies.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Lead the structuring and execution of capital markets transactions including debt issuances, surplus notes, letters of credit, repos, securitized lending, reserve financing solutions, asset structuring, securitizations and other balance sheet optimization strategies that optimize the Company’s capital, liquidity and collateral positions.

Partner with the Treasurer and Chief Actuary to align capital markets activity with the Company’s capital and risk management frameworks.

Collaborate cross-functionally with actuarial, investments, risk, finance and operational teams to ensure capital solutions are aligned with the Company’s liability profile, regulatory considerations, risk appetite and operational controls.

Collaborate with the actuarial, investments, risk and finance teams on capital structure strategy, liquidity planning, earnings impacts and financial reporting considerations.

Serve as a primary point of contact for external stakeholders including investment banks, reinsurers, capital providers and legal counsel.

Actively follow and stay up-to-date on industry trends, market activity and the newest capital markets solutions technology available in the market to maintain the Company’s competitiveness.

Evaluate market conditions and provide strategic recommendations regarding timing, structure, and pricing of capital markets transactions.

Develop and maintain internal capital markets models, analytics, and transaction frameworks to assess cost of capital, risk transfer, and financial impacts.

Monitor regulatory developments and industry trends impacting capital markets, insurance finance, and regulatory capital.

Contribute to enterprise-wide initiatives related to growth, acquisitions, reinsurance strategy, or new product launches where capital markets expertise is required.

Ensure strong governance, documentation, and internal controls around capital markets activity.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or a related field; advanced degree (MBA, MS, or similar) preferred.

Minimum of 8–12 years of progressive experience in capital markets, insurance finance, investment banking, or a related financial services role with direct exposure to life and annuities businesses.

Demonstrated experience leading or materially contributing to complex capital markets transactions.

Strong understanding of insurance company balance sheets, statutory accounting, capital frameworks, and the interaction between assets and long-duration liabilities.

Experience working closely with actuarial, finance, and investment functions.

Required Skills

Deep knowledge of capital markets instruments and structures relevant to life and annuities insurers.

Strong analytical and financial modeling capabilities, with the ability to translate complex analyses into clear executive-level insights.

Excellent communication and presentation skills, including comfort interacting with senior executives, boards, and external stakeholders.

Strategic mindset with the ability to balance technical rigor, regulatory considerations, and business objectives.

High degree of judgment, professionalism, and ability to operate with autonomy in a fast-paced, regulated environment.

Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and transactions simultaneously.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Provides functional leadership, mentorship, and oversight to junior team members and cross-functional project teams.

Responsible for reviewing work product, setting priorities, and ensuring high-quality execution across capital markets initiatives

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

Location and Travel

Martello Re welcomes applications for remote positions from candidates residing in the Eastern United States or in states where the company currently operates.
