POSITION SUMMARY: Assist journeyman in the planning, layout, installation, testing and repair of all types of construction related systems and components in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes and industry standards. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Read and interpret measuring tools such as tape measure, speed square, framing square, etc., to perform tasks accurately. Fully understand Plant North and drawing coordinates. Perform tasks including, but not limited to, threading, beveling, and cutting pipe. Use hand and power tools to fit and install all types of pipe and piping systems, including butt welded, socket welded, threaded, Victaulic, grooved, glued and fused joints. Assist in installing valves, couplings and other fittings; disassemble and remove damaged or worn pipe, etc. Produce quality work that meets plans, specifications and industry standards. Coordinate with installation crews for movement of materials and equipment. Perform daily safety checks to ensure equipment is in safe operating condition. Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervision. Take direction from a higher skilled worker or foreman. Have basic knowledge of construction processes involved in heavy industrial construction. Support project with other tasks as directed by supervision. Communicate with Foreman regarding problems, materials required, or hazards noted. Ability to work different shifts and overtime as required. Work under production schedule pressure and attain set standards of accuracy. Perform duties in a safe manner. EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
6 months to 1 year related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. High School Diploma or GED (Certification preferred). Experience working in one or more construction craft roles as a helper or laborer, or a combination of work experience and training, with basic knowledge of the craft assigned. Must be at least 18 years of age. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Knowledge of MIC Health and Safety programs and project-specific regulations. On-site participation in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors. Set a personal example of safe behavior. Proficiency in one or more craft areas. Ability to compute basic numbers, read scales and use simple fractions. Ability to work well under pressure and within timelines. Developing knowledge in fabrication, installation or maintenance of construction components and systems testing, with appropriate tools; familiar with applicable state and federal codes. Must have all licenses required for the area the work is performed, if applicable. Ability to understand and follow directions; must have necessary tools (see craft-specific Helper Tool List). Other duties as assigned. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work up to a 12-hour shift performing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions. Maintain physical strength and stamina; use arms, hands, and legs; push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds; kneel, stoop, balance, crouch, crawl and climb as needed. Stamina to perform tasks repetitively for several hours. Exposure to changing weather and site conditions; environment may involve dust, fumes, loud noises, and other elements. Wear personal protective equipment (safety-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.). Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas; may work at heights and must follow safety and fall-protection requirements; wear and use all safety equipment for work at heights. Ability to evaluate information based on measurable standards; recognize differences in shapes and shading; visualize objects in three dimensions from drawings; coordinate eye, hand and foot movements; see and hear well (with or without correction). This position is a Full-Time position scheduled to work typically 50 hours per week. Schedule is subject to project requirements. TRAVEL
