Job Overview The Construction Inspector will partner with project stakeholders to manage the quality and successful performance of construction projects within the energy and utilities organization. The Construction Inspector reports directly to the Construction Manager and will be responsible for overseeing substation and/or transmission line construction projects. The Construction Inspector will perform daily on‑site inspections to verify work is being performed in accordance with approved project drawings and specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Verify and ensure contractors adhere to client approved construction methods, equipment, standards, workmanship, quantity and quality of materials meet client plans and specifications.
Report deviations from client standards professionally both verbally and in writing.
Perform non‑structural construction inspections, constructability reviews, review of construction drawings, specifications, record errors, omissions, and potential problem areas.
Document the location of installed facilities via as‑built drawings, as required, and prepare supporting documents as needed in accordance with client policies and procedures.
Prepare reports, correction notices, procedures and other written materials to contractors, stakeholders, and/or management.
Ensure that all projects meet safety standards in accordance with OSHA, state regulations and other industry best practices.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualification
To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities required.
Proficient in reading and interpreting construction plans and specifications and comparing with the customer or engineers' standards.
Knowledge of transmission and substation facilities including foundations, overhead structures, stringing of conductors, installation of conduit, and related components.
2+ years of experience performing inspections, including providing technical support, identifying compliance issues, and providing corrective recommendations.
5+ years total of engineering design and/or construction management experience in the electric and gas utility industry.
Physical Requirements
8-12 hour workdays, 5 to 6 days a week if project requires.
Ability and willingness to travel and stay for a minimum of 6 weeks at a time for a project.
Ability and willingness to work in extreme weather conditions.
Ability to lift 50 lbs. at any given time throughout the day.
Ability to walk on average 3 to 5 miles per day across rough terrain and/or unlevel surfaces.
Possession of valid driver's license.
Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite.
Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
