Summary This position will ensure loans meet company standards for sale to the secondary market. A person will identify, analyze and balance transactional, borrower and property‑related risks to arrive at a loan decision of approval, suspense, counteroffer, or denial.
Principal Accountabilities
Reviews all items and conditions provided by borrowers to ensure they meet required guidelines using internal and external policies and procedures (e.g., automated underwriting systems such as DU or LPA). (10%)
Reviews applications and all pertinent disclosures to ensure compliance with all Federal, State and investor requirements. (10%)
Monitors the property appraisal process to ensure property value is accurately presented. (10%)
Analyzes documentation such as credit, income, assets, and appraisals to make sound underwriting decisions using internal checklists. (10%)
Identifies risk issues and/or potential misrepresentation in loan applications. (10%)
Ensures documentation is properly classified and organized. (10%)
Maintains company turn‑time expectations while making quality underwriting decisions. (10%)
Reviews and clears conditions on all loans to ensure a complete loan package prior to closing. (10%)
Reworks loans to new terms and identifies additional conditions as needed. (10%)
Works in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment while practicing sound lending judgment. (10%)
Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree with 4 years of experience in mortgage underwriting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Qualifications
Must have an active DE CHUMS and SAR number.
Must be familiar with all investor guidelines.
Working experience with DU, LP and GUS underwriting systems.
Extensive knowledge of residential appraisal deficiencies according to USPAP.
Experience with FHA/VA new‑construction documentation and condominium project approval requirements.
Experience handling multiple investors.
Possess excellent communication and organizational skills.
