The Mechanical Inspector – PMC is responsible for supervising and inspecting all mechanical construction activities in oil & gas plants, ensuring full compliance with approved drawings, project specifications, international standards, and HSE requirements. The role supports the PMC team in delivering safe, high-quality, and compliant plant facilities. Key Responsibilities
Inspect and monitor mechanical works including
static & rotating equipment, piping, tanks, pressure vessels, pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, and packaged units .
Ensure contractor compliance with
IFC drawings, P&IDs, method statements, ITPs, and approved material submittals .
Verify
piping fabrication, erection, welding, and installation
activities in accordance with approved WPS, PQR, and ITPs.
Witness and review
NDT activities
(RT, UT, MT, PT) and ensure acceptance as per project standards.
Inspect
mechanical erection works , alignment, grouting, bolt tightening, and torqueing.
Monitor
hydrotesting, pneumatic testing, flushing, blowing, chemical cleaning, and drying
activities.
Witness
pre-commissioning and commissioning activities
for mechanical systems.
Review and verify
mechanical material receipt, storage, preservation, and handling
at site.
Raise
NCRs, site observations, and punch list items , and follow up until closure.
Ensure strict compliance with
HSE standards , PTW systems, and toolbox talks during site activities.
Coordinate with PMC Engineers, QA/QC teams, contractors, and vendors to resolve site technical issues.
Participate in
mechanical completion, system handover, and final acceptance
activities.
Maintain inspection reports, daily logs, progress reports, and quality documentation.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in
Mechanical Engineering .
8–15 years
of experience in oil & gas plant projects, preferably with
PMC / EPC / Consultancy
organizations.
Strong exposure to
onshore oil & gas facilities , refineries, gas processing plants, or petrochemical plants.
Hands-on experience with
piping, welding, NDT, pressure testing, and rotating equipment .
Familiar with international codes and standards:
ASME (B31.3, Section VIII & IX), API, ANSI, ASTM, ISO .
Experience working with
multinational contractors and vendors .
Certifications (Preferred)
CSWIP 3.1 / 3.2
or equivalent welding inspection certification.
NDT Level II
(RT/UT/MT/PT).
HSE certifications (NEBOSH / IOSH) – advantage.
Skills & Competencies
Excellent knowledge of
oil & gas plant mechanical systems and construction practices .
Strong ability to read and interpret
P&IDs, isometrics, GA drawings, and datasheets .
Detail-oriented with strong inspection and reporting skills.
Effective communication and coordination with multiple stakeholders.
Proficient in MS Office; experience with inspection and QA/QC systems is a plus.
