Human Resources Generalist - Lansing, MI Capital Area Community Services Inc. is looking for a Human Resources Generalist to support the Head Start and Early Head Start Programs. The role reports to the Head Start Program Director and works closely with the agency Human Resources Director. This is a fast‑paced full‑time position.

Salary:

$61,000 - $69,000 per year.

Job Summary The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for HR department functions for the Head Start and Early Head Start Programs, ensuring compliance with federal, state and local laws, and supporting staff and program operations through recruitment, onboarding, benefits, leave management, and performance management.

Qualifications

Two years of HR experience with extensive use of an HRIS and applicant tracking system (e.g., I‑Solved).

Proven employee recruiting experience.

Extensive knowledge of FMLA administration.

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human Resources or a closely related field.

2+ years of intermediate Microsoft Word and Excel proficiency, and advanced business writing skills.

Strong grammar, spelling, and business etiquette.

Position Duties / Responsibilities

Recruit candidates, post jobs, and manage application flow.

Check references and schedule pre‑employment requirements (physical, drug screen, fingerprinting).

Conduct new‑hire orientation and coordinate training sessions.

Maintain involvement with Staff Wellness initiatives and related reporting.

Process employee status changes (position, pay, location, leave, separations).

Attend program administration meetings and share relevant information.

Support supervisors and managers with staff corrective action and improvement plans.

Coordinate, monitor, and track leave of absence requests.

Assist with workers’ compensation claims.

Provide training on interviewing, FMLA, performance evaluations, and corrective actions.

Facilitate the employee exit process.

Ensure compliance with employment laws and Head Start Program Performance Standards.

Maintain knowledge of regulatory changes and HR trends.

Perform additional duties as requested by the Head Start Program Director or agency HR Director.
