Role Overview This highly experienced Athletic Trainer position reports to the Sports Medicine or Orthopedic Clinic Manager and involves clinical responsibilities with one or more orthopedic physicians. The incumbent will provide athletic training services for Emory Orthopedics and Sports Medicine under physician direction while demonstrating the evaluation and educational skills expected of an athletic trainer at Emory Healthcare.

Responsibilities

Provide athletic training services under the direction of designated orthopedic physicians.

Perform direct patient contact for the evaluation and treatment of medical and musculoskeletal pathology as defined by the NATABOC and the State of Georgia Athletic Training Credentialing Board.

Execute tasks with minimal or no supervision in the clinical setting.

Identify, document, and resolve complex patient problems related to musculoskeletal care and patient service.

Ensure continuity of care through effective decision‑making.

Coordinate patient and athlete care services with other health‑care providers.

Perform thorough medical history and appropriate physical examination on each patient.

Order and interpret diagnostic studies under physician direction.

Provide educational responsibilities specific to the needs of each patient.

Document each patient visit and respond promptly to patient phone calls.

Handle general office duties and other tasks assigned by physicians or the clinic manager.

Identify the need to develop or revise policies and procedures pertaining to sports‑medicine patients and departmental practices.

Implement clinic initiatives regarding patient safety, compliance, and staff development.

Assist with physician research projects and demonstrate progress on specific projects.

Cover community outreach events as required by the program manager.

Mentor the Athletic Training Residency program through teaching and educational sessions.

Serve as a clinical resource for the call center, front desk, and other administrative personnel.

Work cooperatively with all members of the Emory Orthopedic and Spine Center teams.

Perform in‑office injection procedures and provide post‑operative wound care, suture removal, and dressing changes as directed.

Attend at least 75 % of educational programming offered by Emory Sports Medicine and collaborate with the manager to formulate a professional development plan.

Engage in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.

Minimum Qualifications

Nationally certified athletic trainer (ATC).

Georgia state licensure.

Bachelor’s degree in a health‑related profession.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including use of relevant medical terminology.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification as required by the American Heart Association.

Physical Requirements Medium maximal 25 lbs: up to 25 lbs (0‑33 % of the work day, occasionally), 11‑25 lbs (34‑66 % of the work day, frequently), 0‑10 lbs (67‑100 % of the work day, constantly). Lifting up to 25 lbs max. Carrying objects up to 25 lbs. Occasional to frequent standing, walking, sitting. Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing). Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and tasks.

Potential exposures include blood‑borne pathogens, bio‑hazardous waste, chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, communicable diseases, electrical shock, floor surfaces, hot/cold temperatures, indoor/outdoor conditions, latex, lighting, patient care/handling injuries, radiation, shift work, travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, is expected.
