General Notes Communications Manager supporting internal and organizational communications across Operational Services and Strategies (OSS), with dedicated focus areas in Human Resources, as well as units and departments within Operational Services and Strategies.

Purpose This position develops and advances communication strategies across the Operational Services and Strategies (OSS) portfolio as a member of the Communications Marketing & Engagement (CME) team. The Communications Manager will support internal and organizational communications; lead HR-communications initiatives; strengthen online and multimedia content; and ensure brand consistency, clarity, and alignment with OSS and University priorities.
Responsibilities
Provides strategic communications guidance to HR and communications support for departments and areas in Campus Services and Campus Operations and Planning.
Develops and maintains written and digital content, including website updates, social media posts, and messaging documents.
Partners with HR leadership and CME team to develop HR communications strategies and ensure alignment with the HR strategic plan.
Leads, writes, coordinates, and publishes the HR monthly newsletter in partnership with HR and CME staff.
Oversees HR's online presence, including partnering with subject matter experts on a website audit and redevelopment effort.
Supports rollout of One Great Team culture elements, especially as they relate to HR initiatives such as onboarding and performance reviews.
Works collaboratively with HR teams to identify, coordinate, and build synergies among groups within HR.
Identifies story ideas and contributes to editorial planning; Contributes to multimedia efforts such as training videos, culture pieces, and operational storytelling-supporting scriptwriting, storyboarding, direction, and production.
Develops internal communications for staff and campus audiences, including correspondence, announcements, reports, presentations, newsletters, FAQs, recognition efforts, and talking points.
Provides support for external communications in consultation with CME team, such as coordinating spokesperson interviews, gathering information and facts to use in response to a media inquiry, or editing presentations and promotional materials.
Coordinates with Campus Services and Campus Operations and Planning department communicators, and CME team to ensure communications are strategically aligned with organizational goals and support priorities.
Prepares messaging materials, supports departmental events, ensures quality control, and attends leadership meetings to represent communications needs and opportunities.
Provides proofreading, copyediting, tone guidance, and formatting support to ensure consistency and clarity across OSS communications.
Attends OSS and university-wide communications meetings.
Ensures communications align with University initiatives, UT brand standards, and accessibility guidelines.
Provides flexible, adaptive communications assistance across departments and units within Operational Services and Strategies to support evolving needs.
Required Qualifications
Five years of professional experience in internal or organizational communications, public relations, public affairs, journalism, or similar work.
Excellent writing and communication skills.
Highly detail-oriented with strong proofreading, editing, and quality-control skills.
Experience using content management systems.
Experience auditing websites, writing website content, and launching websites within large or complex organizations.
Ability to take initiative, work independently, and collaborate on cross-functional teams.
Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated tact, diplomacy, discretion, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Commitment to high ethical standards.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Seven or more years of experience in internal or organizational communications, public relations, public affairs, journalism, or similar work.
Experience with project management systems such as Asana.
Experience using Adobe Creative Suite and tools such as Canva.
Experience working with diverse staff populations.
Background in community, government, or media relations.
Experience writing or developing communications on behalf of executives and division leaders.
Salary Range $85,000 + depending on qualifications
