Overview Designer - CAD AutoCad and/or GIS Experience

Tampa, FL 33637 | Contract to Hire | Full time - 40 hrs/week | Flex schedule available (5x8 or 4/10 or 4x9 with 4 hrs on Fridays) | Pay Range: $22 - $40 per hour dependent on experience and degree

Responsibilities

Meet with customers and/or their agents to discuss needs and feasibility on new construction projects and load additions and to determine the schedule and required completion dates of different construction phases.

Communicate updates to all involved entities concerning the construction schedule or other changes with potential impact, documenting updates through letters and e-mails as necessary.

Create and/or process work requests in a company-specific Project Management System.

Estimate electrical loads for customers and determine actual or proposed field measurements (such as span distances, conductor heights/sizes, etc.).

Model conditions in appropriate software applications to determine optimal equipment/material specifications to meet customer needs while ensuring results comply with regulatory requirements.

Use company-specific software to draw proposed and existing electrical features.

Produce and/or oversee the production of construction prints and right-of-way permit drawings for Field Construction Operations and/or contractors.

Verify that locations of existing and proposed equipment and any third-party infrastructure (water, sewer, storm, gas, telephone, and cable lines) are identified on construction prints and equipment specifications are captured.

Determine the necessity and scale of the Maintenance-of-Traffic (MOT) plan based on project scope and company safety standards.

Troubleshoot customer voltage complaints and apply engineering skills to resolve them.

Meet with DOT, county municipalities, other utilities, and contractors to preplan construction and modification of roads and distribution systems.

Provide engineering and project management for large master-planned multiple-parcel residential developments and commercial projects (e.g., malls, large retail, and schools).

Interpret plans for large government projects of relative complexity such as road widening, intersection improvements, and the installation or relocation of public infrastructures.

Analyze road construction design prints and identify potential physical and economic impacts to utility facilities.

Mentor less experienced Designers.

Travel to project areas to verify design constructability and to gather data on surrounding areas and existing facilities.

Evening and weekend work may be required based on company and client needs.

Qualifications

Relevant working experience may substitute for time-based qualification.

CAD drafting or GIS experience.

Clear MVR in order to operate a company vehicle.

Two years of distribution design experience is preferred.

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time.

Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
