The mission of the Augusta University Police Department is to promote a safe atmosphere in which the university's teaching, discovery, clinical care and service mission can be successful. This is accomplished through traditional and progressive law enforcement practices and strong community partnership. Job Summary
This position is reserved for police officer positions who have already obtained their Georgia Police Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Basic Mandate course and are either transferring from Police Officer I after completing the AUPD Field Training Officer program or have already been employed by another law enforcement agency. Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to: Prepare required documents and reports. Effect arrests and restrain persons consistent with the tenants of probable cause and reasonable suspicion. Conduct investigations, collect and identify evidence, question principals and witnesses, testify in court. Conduct safety escorts. Assist police dispatcher as necessary. Patrol a designated area of the University projecting a community-oriented policing mindset, preserve law and order, be alert for and control commission of crimes, answer calls to include, but not limited to trespassing, thefts, fire and burglar alarms, traffic accidents, and enforce traffic regulations. Perform all other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements High School Diploma or GED from a recognized State or Federal accredited organization Must be 18 years of age Must possess good moral and ethical character Must be a certified police officer through Georgia P.O.S.T. or eligible for the Equivalency of Training (EoT) program through Georgia P.O.S.T. ABILITIES Ability to maintain confidentiality Knowledge and skill in the use of firearms Knowledge of standard police practices and techniques Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases Ability to maintain complex records; Perform well under stress in a calm, efficient manner Ability to exercise sound judgement and make responsible decisions especially decisions regarding use of force Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Rotating Pay Band: 9 Salary: $23.46/hour Salary to be commensurate with qualifications within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) Recruitment Period: 01/02/2026 - Until Filled Benefits that may be elected could include health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, retirement plans, vacation, sick leave, and holidays. Full-time employees may be considered for Tuition Assistance after more than 6 months of employment. Conditions of Employment
