Description Recreation leaders work as a team with other recreation leaders to provide recreational activities and events to participants. Work as a team with other recreation leaders to support, organize and implement activities and services to the Douglass Park Community. Activities are geared to providing a safe, positive environment for children, teens and adults.

Essential Functions

Closely supervises program participants at all times.

Take daily attendance.

Plan, organize and implement daily age-appropriate recreational activities and events for people of all ages.

Lead games and activities.

Keep accurate records and work within the budget for assigned program.

Set up necessary equipment prior to activities and return it to storage upon completion of activity.

Maintain good working relationship with participants, parents, other staff members and general public.

Work with supervisor to establish regular communication with participants’ parents/guardians through newsletters and meetings.

Available to parents for questions at pickup time.

Maintain a safe recreational environment.

Use appropriate discipline and guidance techniques.

Thoroughly complete accident, incident, and other reports as necessary.

Enforce Park District policies and procedures.

Check all equipment and supplies and report necessary repairs to immediate supervisor

Must wear a Champaign Park District shirt during working hours.

Collect Ids during open gym if applicable.

Answer phones in a professional manner during work hours.

Assist full-time staff in securing the building at closing time.

Attend Champaign Park District bloodborne pathogen training within two weeks of hire.

Current CPR and First Aid certification is a requirement of this job and a condition of employment.

A positive 'can do' team attitude.

Other duties as assigned.

Marginal Functions

Attend all required meetings.

Typical Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Must possess a high school diploma or the equivalent.

Knowledge of developmentally appropriate behavior of children.

Proven experience planning recreation activities with children, teens, or adults.

Physically able to be actively involved in children’s recreational activities.

Ability to effectively communicate with the public in writing and verbally.

Bilingual in English/Spanish is desirable but not required.

Available evenings and weekends as necessary.

Seasonal/part-time employees do not receive paid benefits.
