Our Middle Market team is currently seeking an Underwriting Technician in our Bloomington, MN location. This is a full time, non-exempt role. This position is eligible for a hybrid arrangement.

POSITION OVERVIEW This position reports to the MM UT Manager. Responsible for supporting the Middle Market Underwriters by prepping and servicing accounts within an assigned book of business. Servicing will include managing endorsements and may handle small accounts under their own authority letter. This position works in conjunction with the Middle Market Underwriter to strengthen agency relationships by providing prompt service to partner agents.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL

Provide fundamental level of support to assigned Underwriter(s) on new business submissions and renewal accounts to achieve new business, total written premium and retention goals aligned with assigned Underwriter(s).

Works in direct collaboration with their UW and UT leader.

Provide customer service support for agents and underwriters handling various escalation and rush requests with a consistent level of responsiveness.

Develop basic familiarity with UW profitability, Renewal Book quality and appropriately executes within authority level.

Understand service metrics, aligned with workflows and UT best practices.

Builds agency relationships and service experience – as measured by agency feedback.

Participates in ongoing training with peers and UT leadership following onboarding model building proficiency in the role.

Building skill set to apply fundamental underwriting concepts including risk selection, exposure and hazard identification and control, coverage implications, pricing, and loss analysis as appropriate.

Processes endorsements that fall within their authority and timely referring those outside of their authority to the Middle Market Underwriter.

Organizes a Renewal Book of business that fall outside of their authority level by initiating pre-set renewal preparation. Gathering of necessary information through communication with agents, claims adjustors and risk solution representatives.

WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY

Associate’s degree preferred and/or 1-2 years of commercial lines experience

Ability to develop understanding of basic exposure/control analysis and coverage

Basic commercial lines underwriting knowledge working with over $50,000 in premiums.

Awareness of how the various roles/functions fit together and the importance of each

Ability to problem solve and leverage available resources

Service oriented with a high level of responsiveness

Ability to self-manage workload to meet underwriting goals and service standards

Communicates effectively with internal and external partners both verbally and in written communications
