Position Summary As a Sheet Metal Fabricator specializing in custom trailers, you will be responsible for the precise fabrication and assembly of sheet metal components used in the construction of custom trailers. Your role involves interpreting design blueprints, selecting materials, utilizing specialized equipment, and ensuring high-quality standards throughout the fabrication process.
Primary Responsibilities
Review and interpret design blueprints and specifications to understand fabrication requirements.
Select appropriate sheet metal based on project specifications, considering strength, durability, and cost.
Sand, grind, and polish surfaces to prepare for final inspection.
Use cutting tools such as shears to accurately cut and shape sheet metal according to design specifications.
Employ forming and bending techniques, including press brakes and rollers, to shape components.
Conduct inspections to verify dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and adherence to quality standards.
Identify and troubleshoot issues during fabrication, implementing correctiveli>
Collaborate with design engineers, production managers, and team members to communicate progress and address concerns.
Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
High School Diploma or equivalent with 1–2 years of experience as a sheet metal fabricator.
Strong interpersonal communication skills.
Mechanical aptitude and proficiency with basic hand tools (tape measure, level, drill, etc.).
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
Knowledge of sheet metal materials, cutting techniques, and forming processes.
Experience with fabrication equipment such as shears, stays, and rollers.
Capacity to work independently or as part of a team.
Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
Safety-first mindset.
Preferred Skills
Perform welding and joining operations for sheet metal components.
Certification or training in sheet metal fabrication, welding, or related discipline.
Experience in custom trailer, construction, or related field.
Brake press and manual brake experience.
Hydraulics experience.
12-volt wiring experience.
Glass installation experience.
Physical Requirements
Maintain a stationary standing position up to 8 hours a day.
Ascend and descend ladders and climb in and out of trailers, and work in a man-lift environment.
Move and transport up to 75 pounds.
Flexibility to bend, grip, and move fingers/hands.
Respond to auditory signals and use hearing protection when necessary.
Occasional travel (0–5%).
