Summary/Objective The Sheet Metal Estimator will provide complete airside estimates for bids on commercial projects assigned by the Estimating Manager. Projects include College and University Facilities, Healthcare, Laboratories, Data Centers, Central Plants, and office buildings.
Essential Functions
Review all construction documents including Instructions To Bidders, Bid Forms, and Scope of Work.
Solicit subcontractor and vendor quotations to ensure coverage on all scopes of work.
Distribute plans, specifications, and addenda to subcontractors and vendors via company FTP website and/or email.
Participate in pre‑bid meetings and site visits, which may require occasional travel.
Coordinate scope of work between in‑house trades (Piping, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Electrical) as required.
Mentor estimators as needed.
Take‑off all equipment (AHUs, VAVs, CRACs, heaters, fans, etc.) and material for trade‑specific scope of work using Trimble Autobid.
Enter all material, labor, subcontract pricing, vendor pricing, equipment rentals, and other costs into bid summary before the bid due date.
Review all take‑off and pricing for completeness on all self‑performed work.
Review in detail subcontractor and vendor quotations for full compliance with the plans and specifications, coordinating equipment and controls to avoid scope gaps.
Enter scope of work into company proposal template form (MS Word Based).
Upon project award, assist in procurement of subs, equipment, and materials.
Enter estimate into job cost control program and participate in turnover/transition meetings with operations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility No
Required
5 years of experience in commercial and institutional construction.
3 years of estimating and pre‑construction experience.
Thorough understanding of shop fabrication/production rates and methods for the sheet metal trades.
Solid knowledge of SMACNA duct construction standards and pressure classes.
Strong understanding of mechanical systems and interface with BAS.
Experience with budgets, value‑management ideas, construction schedules, and manpower projections.
Proficient in computer/network‑based estimating software (e.g., Autobid, QuoteSoft, TSI, Estimation).
Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Bluebeam.
Must meet critical deadlines.
Must multi‑task with minimal supervision, following written and oral instructions, with attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.
Must adhere to all company policy and procedures.
Must be available to work assigned schedules.
Work Environment
Professional office environment with standard office equipment.
Visits to construction and industrial work sites.
Physical Demands
Routine use of computers, phones, copiers, email, and teleconferencing.
Site visits requiring walking through existing buildings, industrial plants, and construction sites; may involve stairs and ladders.
Travel
May require infrequent travel (typically not overnight).
Preferred
AAS or BS Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
Industrial facility experience.
Experience with MS Project or other scheduling software.
Prior military experience.
