Georgia‑Pacific is hiring a Maintenance Technician for its Lumber Facility in Talladega, AL.
Salary Starting pay: $27‑33 per hour (based on experience). + $5.00 per hour shift premium for hours worked Friday‑Sunday (overtime rules apply). Compensation may increase with skill and performance.
Shift Regular 12‑hour rotating shift (rotates monthly). Flexible availability required for overtime, holidays, and weekends. Orientation week 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday‑Friday; regular shift assigned post‑orientation.
Location 400 Ironaton Cutoff Road, Talladega, AL 35160
Responsibilities
Adhere to plant safety and environmental guidelines, policies, and procedures; actively participate in the safety program.
Support operations efficiency through troubleshooting and maintaining manufacturing equipment and processes.
Perform periodic proactive asset strategies—maintenance routes, preventative maintenance, and other tasks to improve reliability and uptime.
Install and repair mechanical drives, chains, sprockets, gearboxes, belts, and couplings.
Maintain and troubleshoot pneumatic systems, control devices, hydraulic equipment, circuits, and components.
Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to identify and prioritize maintenance needs.
Weld, cut, fit, and install piping throughout the facility using pipefitting skills.
Assist operators or crew members with machine start‑up, shutdown, or clean‑up.
Research parts in equipment manuals and submit work orders in a computerized maintenance management program.
Communicate daily work performed and machine conditions via written and verbal documentation.
Basic Qualifications
Experience performing installation, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial equipment.
Experience in hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems and components.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical blueprints and schematics.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree or higher in Industrial Technology or related field and at least 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment (or 5 years equivalent).
Working knowledge of precision alignment of motors, couplings, bearings, and lubrication systems and pumps.
Mechanical maintenance experience—including fluid handling and conveyor systems, hydraulic systems and accumulators, valve identification, and welding.
Experience with a computerized maintenance management software (CMMS).
