Summary / Objectives The Merchant Services Representative II will be responsible for representing SouthState Bank Merchant Services in the development of new accounts and the expansion of existing accounts. With a focus on one of South State Bank’s established geographic regions, the representative will directly interact with business owners to review their card payment acceptance needs and align South State Bank Merchant Services solutions to meet those needs. Additionally, the representative demonstrates knowledge of advanced digital technology experience, cost analysis, and has a high understanding of card interchange. This individual will focus on higher‑volume businesses in their established geographic region and from time to time may be responsible for responding to larger, more complex opportunities sourced through the RFP process. The representative will partner with Branch Managers, Commercial Bankers, and Treasury Management Sales Officers as necessary to develop sales leads from existing bank customers and identify opportunities for new prospects. The representative will provide professional, consultative sales of Merchant Services solutions and will significantly influence client decisions in selecting solutions that help businesses succeed in the collection of card payments. The representative will also serve as a mentor to other Merchant Services Representatives on the team.
Essential Functions
Responsible for new account development and/or the expansion of existing accounts within an established geographic bank territory.
Provide professional, consultative sales and apply company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues.
Have working knowledge of South State Bank Merchant Services solutions, card interchange, advanced digital technology solutions, merchant cost analysis, and other business banking products.
Possess knowledge about PCI compliance and a basic understanding of eCommerce technologies and applications.
Maintain an active and accurate Merchant Services sales pipeline.
Help execute Merchant Services Sales campaigns in the branches and manage receipt, review, and follow‑up of sales referrals received from bank partners.
Prepare customized Merchant Services proposals that are responsive to individual customer needs; ensure new client onboarding process is followed and perform follow‑up calls with newly boarded merchants to ensure they have received adequate setup and training for the solutions provided.
Attend business development meetings, Branch Meetings, and other regional sales and market meetings to share Merchant Services sales priorities, current campaigns, product training and knowledge sharing, and business development opportunities.
Partner with Treasury Management Sales Officers regularly to review Treasury Management and Merchant Services sales pipelines to identify partnership opportunities.
Support other Merchant Services Representatives in a mentor capacity to junior sales officers and serve as a backup when they are out of the office and cannot cover their established geographic regions.
Self‑source new sales opportunities to identify new Merchant Services sales opportunities in established geographic regions.
Accept other duties as assigned by Management.

Qualifications, Education, and Certification Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, marketing, or related fields; or equivalent experience.
Experience: At least five or more years in Merchant Services and five or more years in Retail/Commercial Banking; prior proven sales and marketing experience; and experience with advanced technical knowledge of payment solutions preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent communication, sales and public relations skills; ability to organize work and meet deadlines; ability to communicate effectively in training and sales presentations; ability to serve clients enthusiastically and tactfully; ability to promote teamwork; ability to handle confidential information; ability to adapt to rapidly changing environment; ability to function harmoniously with clients, management and peers when working under pressure.
Training Requirements / Classes Required annual compliance training; complete all necessary Processing education; attend one conference per year within the industry.
Physical Demands Must be able to effectively access and interpret information on computer screens, documents, and reports. This position requires a large amount of time in front of a computer. This can be done sitting or standing with the use of the right desk.
Work Environment This position is in a private office. Telecommuting roles, whether hybrid or 100% full time, must have a secure home office environment that is free from background noise and distractions. They must also have a reliable private internet connection that is not supplied by use of cellular data (hot spot). Cable or fiber connections are preferred. Requirements are subject to change, as new systems and technology are delivered.
