Our primary mission is to integrate community-based projects into course curriculum, creating opportunities for students to learn through the application of knowledge to authentic, meaningful and relevant local issues. These activities increase students’ sense of purpose, engagement and belonging to UH Hilo and the broader community. By understanding how education and research can be responsive to community needs, the CCE contributes to the university’s role in building a healthy, vibrant community for all. Reporting to the Director of the Center for Community Engagement, the Community Partner Coordinator strengthens and sustains collaborative relationships between UH Hilo and Hawaii Island community organizations. Grounded in UH Hilo’s mission to provide student-centered, culturally sustaining education rooted in the heritage and needs of Hawaii, this position ensures reciprocal, respectful, and effective partnerships that expand learning opportunities for students while advancing community goals. Other Conditions: Appointment to begin approximately February 2026, pending position clearance and availability of funds. Temporary position, renewal contingent upon satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and program needs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and maintain collaborative relationships through targeted outreach, site visits, ongoing stewardship, and ensuring reciprocity and mutual benefit.
Facilitate connections between community organizations and students, faculty, and staff to build community-engaged learning opportunities.
Serve as the primary point of contact for community partners, resolving concerns and issues while fostering trust and effective communication.
Coordinate major engagement events, such as the annual community partner fair, and develop new initiatives to connect the campus with the Hawaii Island community.
Maintain an accurate database of active partners and opportunities, ensuring placement processes are clear, equitable, and up to date.
Support the Bonner Coordinator in developing a variety of partnerships, including direct service, host sites, and capstone project sites.
Provide essential orientation and training to students and partners to support successful, respectful, and safe engagement experiences.
Offer capacity-building opportunities for community partners (e.g., workshops, networking events, access to campus resources).
Collaborate with other campus departments (e.g., Career Services and Campus Center) to align community engagement efforts and prevent redundant work.
Collaborate with CCE staff on assessing the impact of community partnerships on the community, students, and faculty/staff.
Lead the development of noncredit programming by soliciting and vetting course proposals, hiring and communicating with instructors, and determining program costs and enrollment.
Manage program promotion by updating the website and publicizing course offerings, and handling student registration and communication.
Manage the fiscal oversight of noncredit programming, including budgeting and revenue tracking.
Provide core administrative support for the Center, including responding to general phone/email inquiries and serving as the primary liaison for fiscal, HR, and travel documentation with VCAA support.
Manage the CCE website content, assist in internal and external communication of CCE activities, and provide logistical support for all CCE projects (e.g., reserving facilities, ordering food, overseeing registration).
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a baccalaureate degree in any field and three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for program coordination, community outreach, and administrative management; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of community engagement, partnership development, and program administration as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with fiscal management, personnel processes (HR) and community partnership.
Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and utilize standard business software, including videoconferencing (e.g., Zoom), word processing, spreadsheets, and shared document platforms (e.g., Google Docs, Google Drive).
For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
Demonstrated ability to oversee programs or projects, manage multiple priorities, and maintain strong organizational and detail-oriented skills.

Experience with the University of Hawaii system policies and processes, especially in areas of fiscal management, human resources and travel.
Ability to analyze data, track program outcomes, and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Experience creating and managing digital content, including websites, social media platforms, electronic newsletters, and promotional materials (e.g., flyers, presentations).
