Development & Communications Coordinator
POSITION: Development & Communications Coordinator. STATUS: Full-time, Non-Exempt, Entry Level. REPORTS TO: Proyecto Pastoral’s Associate Director, Development & Communications. HOURLY: $25.00 - $28.00 depending on experience. WORK LOCATION: On-site, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., 5 days a week.
Organizational Background Proyecto Pastoral was founded in 1986 by community residents and the California Province of Jesuits. Our mission is to empower the community of Boyle Heights through grassroots projects in education, leadership, and service. We reach more than 7,000 children, youth, families, and individuals annually through core initiatives in homelessness, youth development, education, and community organizing. This role supports fundraising efforts across all programs, including Comunidad el Moviemento, IMPACTO, Guadalupe Homeless Shelters, Early Childhood Education Centers, and Promesa Boyle Heights.

Position Summary The Development & Communications Coordinator will support fundraising and communications, writing proposals and reports, managing grant processes, overseeing social media, website updates, and bi‑monthly e‑newsletter, and assisting fundraising events and campaigns.
Key Responsibilities
Grant Writing and Management:
Research, prepare, write, and submit public, private foundation, and corporate proposals and reports.
Write compelling proposals with strong narratives and engaging cases for support.
Coordinate with Program Directors and Finance Department for budgets and reports.
Cultivate foundation prospects through research, outreach, and strategic touchpoints.
Follow up with funders as needed.
Track and calendar grant activities.
Marketing & Branding:
Create communications and marketing materials, including newsletters, appeals, thank‑you letters, and annual reports.
Develop marketing materials for events (sponsorship materials, slide decks).
Assist in strategic communications planning.
Develop and update organization‑wide marketing materials (presentations, one‑pagers, brochures).
Engage staff on storytelling and branding training.
Identify opportunities to increase brand awareness in Boyle Heights and Los Angeles.
Ensure brand cohesion across web, social media, and e‑communications.
General Employee Responsibilities:
Represent the organization at events and networking opportunities.
Demonstrate enthusiasm for the mission and Jesuit values.
Assist in fundraising events and other activities.
Provide light administrative support.
Participate in community events during regular hours and weekends/ evenings as needed.
Education, Experience and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and minimum 2 years relevant work experience, preferably 1–2 years in fundraising, grant writing or individual giving.
Proven writing talent; assessment during interview.
Commitment to social justice and systems‑change work.
Understanding of social media platforms.
High attention to detail; ability to fulfill tasks/goals.
Ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment.
Takes initiative to see projects to completion.
Establish positive relationships across teams/sites quickly.
Self‑motivated, deadline‑driven, independent work.
Exceptional organizational skills managing multiple priorities.
Flexible team player; able to attend events evenings/weekends.
Comfortable interacting with foundation staff, donors, and residents.
Adaptable to different communication/working styles.
Spanish/English bilingual a plus.
