Design Director
Scottsdale, AZ | Full-Time | In-Office
Travel: Up to 5 weeks annually for client meetings, installations, or industry events.

The firm’s portfolio is diverse and design-driven, bringing over a decade of experience in Greek housing, completing projects on more than 30 campuses nationwide, ranging from new construction to full FF&E packages. Additionally, the firm’s work is in luxury residential design throughout Arizona, specializing in large-scale renovations and new custom homes. Each project is a true collaboration, tailored to the client’s vision, not a signature style.
About the Role
We’re seeking a Design Director to lead our client’s talented design team and drive excellence across every project. This is a key leadership position responsible for managing people, process, and performance; ensuring that each design delivery is not only beautiful and functional, but also embodies the thoughtful, client-centered approach that defines their work.
As Design Director, you’ll oversee a multidisciplinary team of designers, project managers, and supporting staff, guiding them through all phases of design and execution. You’ll serve as a creative leader, a decisive manager, and a trusted client partner—balancing big‑picture vision with day‑to‑day project precision.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and Inspire: Manage and mentor a design team, fostering a collaborative, innovative, and high‑performing culture.
- Drive Design Excellence: Oversee concept development, design direction, and project execution to ensure creative integrity and alignment with client goals.
- Champion Project Success: Manage workflow, budgets, and timelines to ensure on‑schedule, on‑budget delivery—without surprises.
- Engage Clients: Lead client presentations and meetings, building lasting relationships grounded in trust, transparency, and creativity.
- Empower Growth: Conduct performance reviews, establish clear goals, and support the professional development of each team member.
- Elevate Operations: Develop and refine design processes, systems, and policies that improve efficiency and uphold high standards.
- Stay Ahead: Monitor trends and innovations in design, materials, and technology, bringing forward fresh ideas and strategies to keep our work relevant and inspired.
- Represent the Firm: Travel to installations, site visits, and select industry events (approximately 5 weeks per year).
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited interior design program.
- 10+ years of professional experience in interior design or architecture, including 5+ years managing teams and client relationships.
- Advanced working knowledge of AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, and Microsoft Office.
- Experience managing a team of 10+ direct reports.
- Decisive and confident—able to give clear direction, make informed decisions quickly, and provide actionable feedback.
- Passionate about both creative vision and operational excellence, with strong project management and organizational skills.
- Skilled at building relationships and leading with empathy, integrity, and positivity.
- Collaborative by nature—someone who brings out the best in others and thrives in a supportive, team‑first culture.
- Ability to travel for the firm.
